Wanderin’ Free: My Little Mermaid Ariel
When I was 6 years old I dressed up as Ariel for Halloween. Red wig, walkable fin and all. She was my favorite princess and there was no convincing me I wasn’t her. I was excited to feel like that experience came full circle as my daughter and I took these Princess Arial photos together.
It’s been quite a while since Lil’ J has done one of her princess photo shoots with me. We planned to do Ariel on our Disney Cruise on the Disney Wonder last December at Castaway Cay but we ended up having a rainy day so we just did her Ariel (with legs) photos on the boat, then while at South Padre Island this summer we finally put her mermaid fin (here’s where I go it) to use at the beach and posed as Ariel.
She didn’t direct me as much this time because she was excited to play in the water, but she was so adorable and trying to be in character. She even brought a dinglehopper with us to the beach but sadly she lost it to a wave in the beginning of the shoot. Are you ready for the biggest photo dump of this series yet? Ok good. Here we go!
Oh, all of these images were taken with my Canon EOS 80D using my 17-40mm f/4L lens. Check out my new photography course for all of my tips on photographing your children.
Legs are required for jumpin’, dancin’!
What would I pay to spend a day, warm on the sand?
I have no idea who we will do next. We are thinking of re-doing Cinderella during our Utah trip though she’s outgrown her “glass” slippers since we got them so we’ll have to see how that goes. Neither of us can wait to do Moana (she already has the costume) but I feel like we need a special trip to Hawaii for that one and I’m not sure my husband would go for that.
I think I may start shooting a little video during these and getting some commentary from Lil’ J. Until then leave a comment letting her know what you think! I’ll read them to her and I know she’ll be thankful.

I think this one is my favorite from your series. Initially, I thought I loved the Merida shot best but OMG this one is just amazing. I’m also really jealous that my son isn’t that into Disney right now.
Awwww Danielle I’m so glad you like it!! I love Merida’s too. And Mulan, those are probably my favorites so far… Actually it’s kinda hard to pick a favorite haha. But I really really had fun with these and I think we’re excited to get going on them again.
You are absolutely lovely, Lil’ J. 🙂 It looks like you had so much fun as Ariel! You costumes are amazing, and I love all your cute poses on the cruise and the beach! I can’t wait for your next princess photo shoot. 😉
PS I remember when your mom found out she was having a girl! I’ve been a blog fan that long lol
Shellie, Lil’ J is going to just beam from ear to ear when I read this to her. Thank you so much for sticking with us for so long! <3
