Team Green take home outfits

Finally, after months of planning, talking about it, and sewing, I finally finished the take-home outfits for baby!

I knew I wanted to make something special for Leechie to wear on our way home. I made bows for Lil’ J when she was born, and since then I’ve developed a tiny bit of sewing skills, so I thought I could attempt to make a take-home outfit this time around.

When we decided we were going to keep the baby’s sex a surprise until birth I didn’t want that to force me to make something unisex. I decided to make some team green take home outfits. Two versions… One for a boy and one for a girl.

I browsed Etsy and Pinterest for inspiration and decided I wanted to make an applique suspenders outfit with a boy tie for a boy, and a giraffe applique onesie for a girl. After drawing, cutting, and sewing the giraffe on the girl onesie I decided to make it even prissier by adding a ruffle skirt to the front and ruffle bum to the back.

Finally, big sis couldn’t be left out. So I made her a coordinating dress to match either outfit. I adapted this top pattern from PeekaBoo Pattern Shop by making it a little longer and adding a hem band, sash, and bow.  And no outfit is complete without accessories! The bows are both from the amazing London Blue Designs, ruffly socks I got on Ebay and the little boy’s crocheted golfer hat I ordered from A and N Accessories.

What I’m most excited about is the fact I’m equally excited to dress up this baby in either outfit. I kinda wish I was having boy/girl twins (kidding!).

I didn’t take step-by-step photos of making the onesies, I was in too much of a hurry, but I did save the giraffe applique I adapted. I’ll upload that as a PDF tomorrow in case anyone wants to make it.

Hope you like! I must say I’ve impressed myself. I’m (seriously) not very crafty so if I can do something like this, ANYONE can!

Don’t forget to guess which outfit you think Leechie will be wearing and when you think s/he will arrive! My pool closes Monday, and the winner gets $50!

Wow, all three of those outfits are amazing- you did such a great job! It’s not fair that gorls have so many more cute accesory options. If its a boy, he needs cute socks too! 😉

I am a little upset about the lack of boy accessories as well! I *almost* bought little soft soled giraffe shoes for the boy outfit but didn’t get around to it. Hopefully he won’t mind (if it’s a he).

These are SO adorable! It makes me really miss having a sewing machine (and a little baby hungry, not gonna lie) 😉 Congrats!!!!!!!!

P.s. I LOVE your blog!

Super-cute outfits! My problem with coming home outfits — my team green baby didn’t fit newborn! Thankfully, I had packed a bigger outfit or two in green and yellow… so that’s what she wore home! Yay for big babies! I do love your blog and wish you an easy birthing day!

This was one of my fears too! haha. Lil’ J was 9lbs 9oz so I’m pretty sure the newborn clothes didn’t fit her. I think I got these in size 0-3 months, just in case! 🙂

love them!! so cute and special!!

So I’m curious… what are you going to do with the outfit that doesn’t get worn home? Sell/donate it? Keep it to show baby when he/she grows up? Try to fit a stuffed animal into it in the giraffe nursery? Inquiring minds want to know! 🙂

Love your dressing a bear idea! I think I might just do that! And put it on a shelf in the nursery.

Laura says:

These are all so cute! I made some headbands for my baby girl coming in June, but I am practicing sewing, so maybe I could do something like this next time around! 🙂 So what are you going to do with the extra one? I’m rooting for a boy, so, if I’m right, you should have a giveaway with the extra. I’d like a chance to win it! 😉
Congrats on your baby coming soon! Hope all goes well!

Thanks so much, and congratulations to you! Little girls are SO FUN!! I was thinking I’d do a giveaway but I think people would be disappointed once they saw these up close! haha. I like Tori’s comment above suggesting putting it on a bear. I may do that and save it 🙂

Alice Anne says:

You *should* be impressed with yourself! Everything looks soooooo cute! I have the same question as one of the commenters above – what are you gonna do with the unused outfit?

I haven’t decided what to do with the extra yet, I was thinking save it or give it to a friend since it’s not the best quality, haha.

What do you mean you you’re not crafty? Girl those outfits are ADORABLE and you did an amazing job! We’re rooting for a boy, but the girl clothing and accessories are to die for.

Savanna says:

Awww, can’t wait to see which outfit the mystery baby will be! Hoping its a boy, I love the girl outfit! Great to have a pair or each, I have a two yo son and a 3 month old daughter. Having so much fun with my girl, even though i kept my boy stylish too! Anyway, congrats cant wait to see the little one. I know Ur so excited and little J wont believe how tiny. My son is still in Awe w/ his little sister. and so am I 🙂

Savanna says:

the bow is absolutely to die for!!

Ty says:

All of the outfits are too cute!

Beverly says:

Hi Jen, congrats on your little man!! These outfits you made are stunning. I would like to make something similar for my toddler and soon to arrive baby girl. I was wondering where you got your fabric from and did you upload the appliqué of the giraffe somewhere yet?? Thanks.

Adrian says:

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it
was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any points for novice blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

Carrie Talley says:

I’m obsessed with the giraffe onesie!! Do you sell them?

Thank you! Unfortunately (or fortunately, I’m not very good at sewing tiny things) I don’t.

Carrie Talley says:

You’re breaking my heart!! LOL. I’m obsessed with this outfit!!

Haha, I bet you could totally make it!! Let me know if you need help. I still have the giraffe I drew and cut out for the applique. 🙂
