Yesterday Jayda asked to use my phone and we noticed she didn’t have to type in my passcode. “Did my Face ID think you were me?” We locked it again and she unlocked it. I turned it on myself. Unlocked. Will it open for everyone? Tried it on my husband. Nope. On my son. Nope. Do we really look that much alike?? 😱

#ad💕 How similar are your kids? When it comes to looks, I think mine look a lot alike. But when it comes to personalities? They're all completely different. I knew someday my kids would be able to outrun me,

I knew someday my kids would be able to outrun me, but I didn’t realize that day would come so soon, #DSGPartner. This weekend my family and I went to the local track to run some laps and it turned into a series of races and hilarious showdowns. I consistently took the L in the races but I was definitely a winner when it came to my getup. My family nicknamed me the “Pink Panther.” My ‘fit’ and the rest of the family’s are DSG by @dickssportinggoods. They’re stylish, and I love the quality, which is a win win for us, especially because it’s affordable enough to get something for everyone in our family. Head to my stories to shop our looks. Yesterday Lee Lee was coloring a chalk picture on the ground when she had a complete meltdown. I don’t mean just crying. I mean screaming, throwing chalk and yelling her version of profanities. Why? Because she drew Ty’s shoes too big. My brain quickly ran through my rolodex of various gentle parenting techniques I’ve stumbled upon through the years. Getting down on her level. Not raising my voice. Acknowledging her frustrations. But nothing seemed to be working. I asked if I could try to help fix it and that momentarily seemed to help until she deemed it was unfixable. Finally when I asked if she wanted to start over her screaming ceased. She sniffled out a “yea” and grabbed chalk to start over as if the mistake had never happened. But her first task was to take red piece of chalk and scrape a giant X over her first picture and instructing me to scribble “NO WAY” across the top. She continued to hum and smile as she worked on her 2.0 version, which she was quite proud of.

What is this? Is it perfectionism? Ty is a perfectionist too but his meltdowns weren’t ever to this magnitude. Is it being spirited? She says she doesn’t act like this at school and I believe it. Is she bottling this up all school day then needs a safe space to release all of her emotions? I mean… I guess I can take it. I am learning there’s no talking her OUT of how she feels or cheering her up if she doesn’t like how something looks/feels. She’d rather I agree “yea, that’s terrible, want to try it again?” Which feels so counter to how *I* like to be treated. But I’m trying to be the parent she needs, not the one I would want. Have you ever dealt with something like this? Got any suggestions?
