Dear Lee Lee,

Wow, I have really slacked in the monthly letter department. I hope you won’t hold it against me. You are already 9 months old! Truth is, this was a lot easier to do when I only had one kid and I wrote your sister love letters every month. Having three kids has been an adjustment, but it’s honestly been a fun one. You are nine months old now and you’ve warmed our entire home with your bright smile. Yes, there are a lot of teeth in that smile. Eight actually. I can’t believe it. You don’t bite us too often, but when you do… OUCH!

My baby is 9 months old

Roper from Baby Boden

Eight years have gone by since I’ve had a nine month old daughter. So much has changed since then. For one, we get to spend a lot more time together. I get to work from home with you and take you with me when I travel. I love that you and I get to play together every morning, then sometimes you have a special babysitter who comes over to play with you too so I can focus on work for a few hours and not worry about you swallowing something you’re not suppose to.

Yea, you get into everything. You crawl so fast and find every teeny tiny thing that has ever been dropped on the floor. We’ve had to become much more diligent in vacuuming and picking things up. You don’t tend to try to eat large things. Just the small choking hazards. I can’t even tell you how many things I’ve pulled out of your mouth.

You are one determined and busy little baby. I think you will be my first child to walk before their first birthday. At only 9 months old, you’re already walking along the couch and standing from the middle of the floor without pulling up on anything. I bet if I gave you a little help you’d be walking in no time. But I am not ready for that. I am not ready for you to shift from baby to toddler.

So I must confess, you will be 10 months old in a little over a week, but I’m hanging on to every little day. I’m soaking in every bit of you. We all are. You’ve really brought our family together in a way I didn’t know was possible. Your big brother adores you so much. He used to not like babies at all because he didn’t want them touching his things. Ok, well he’s still a little like that with you, but now he will give you one of his toys (the one he doesn’t want to play with) so you can play too. He still doesn’t like when you put them in your mouth though.

When you started crawling he was your biggest cheerleader. Every new little thing you do makes him laugh and scream excitedly for you.

Your sister is a huge help. She carries your around, dances with you, and entertains you when I’m busy. She still loves to dress you up, and match you. I don’t imagine that will be changing any time soon. It’s funny because when she was your age I dressed her up all of the time.

Sometimes you remind me of your big sister when she was your age. Like how you love to be held and carried around. But in other ways you are so different. Like how you LOVE food and getting into things. I have to stop and remind myself how you’re an entirely new person in our family and you come with a whole new set of opinions and personality traits. We can’t wait to see what sort of big ideas you have to share with us. And what kind of person you grow up to be.

I’m so excited to watch you grow. I think now that I’ve been doing this mom thing a while I am going to be a pretty good one to you too. Or at least try to be. I want you to know that even though you have a sister and brother before you, you get to be yourself. I’m sure you’ll look up to them, and I’m sure they’ll look out for you. Where your older sister was our first to love on and break us into the parenting realm, you are growing up in a place surrounded by even more love.

I tell this to your siblings all the time and I’m going to say it to you too: You can be anything you want to be. Dream big and make it happen. We will help you along the way.

I love you so much baby girl. Thank you for joining our family.

With love,

Mommy

All my life, (yes, I know that’s only been two months, but it’s been a LONG two months), I’ve wanted to be a #GCWBaby.

My mom wore Gerber, my sister and brother wore Gerber. I see so many cute baby pictures on your Instagram page, @gerberchildrenswear and I think That could be ME! If only I smiled…

I noticed you have a new collection at Target. My mom got some in the mail and she’s been sticking me in them all the time. The bodysuits are my favorite cause when my poop goes all over the place my mom can pull them down off of me instead of up over my face. I think she said it’s called a lap shoulder neckline. Anyway, great thinking there.

For your consideration I would like to offer up some headshots and show you some of my best work. These photos are courtesy of my mom, @JenniferBorget #sponsored. I asked her to take these for me in exchange for a shoutout. And as you can see, I am absolutely adorable.

I don’t always smile, in fact, some people say I look scared or extremely serious, but you see it’s just my pensive look. If you ask me, it says calm, comfortable.

To demonstrate my versatility I had her place me in various places around my house showcasing some of your beautiful collection. My favorites are the neutral colored lambs and stripes. But my mom loves all the bright colored ones with hearts and smiling rain clouds. It’s nice there’s a little something for everyone.

My mom says these clothes are made with 100% cotton rib, so that the pieces are breathable and soft for my delicate skin. She wants me to be comfy and cozy from playtime ti’l bedtime.

So, what do you think? I am available to model for anything you’ve got. Blankets, Sleep N’ Plays, heck, I’ll even model your socks! I have great toes.

Anyway, my mom is coming so I’ve gotta wrap this up. I’ll have my people call your people. I can’t wait to see my face up in lights!

Sincerely,

PS: My mom says thank you for the burp cloths. She uses the heck out of them cause sometimes my big sister likes to dance with me right after I eat and… Yea, it’s not pretty.

Dear Stranger:

I know my babies have the sweetest, most delectable looking curls you have ever seen. So enticing in fact, that you may find your hands wandering in its direction.

I’ve only recently began to notice just how frequently it happens. Last week we were waiting in line for a cookie at the mall when a little girl behind us started stroking my daughter’s head. Lil’ J looked at me like ‘Ma, who is touching my hair?’. I looked back at her and said “Oh, thinks your hair is pretty,” loud enough so the little girl’s mom would hear and maybe be prompted intervene. Yet she wasn’t.

I was torn between asking the little girl to stop, swatting her hand away, or just letting it go. I let it go.

The sad truth is, my daughter is pretty accustomed to people she doesn’t even known touching her hair. She used to frequently tell people “You can look at my curls but don’t touch them” but it’s not something I’ve heard her say in a while. I don’t know if she’s grown tired of telling people, or just gotten used to the attention, either way I still want her to know it’s not ok without her permission.

no you didn't touch my hair

I could go on about the psychological aspects behind a child understanding their body is their own. But I’ll stick to the main point here… You touch my kid, I’ll cut you.

I know these strangers aren’t ill willed–The opposite in fact. Some cultures actually believe touching a child’s head is good luck.

But here’s the thing… I don’t know where your hands have been. I finally reached my boiling point when I ran in to grab a drink at a convenient store, son on my hip and daughter at my side. We were setting out things on the counter when one of the store clerks walked behind us, and as he did he grabbed my daughter’s pony tail. He didn’t yank it, but just kinda felt it like ‘oh that looks soft, I want to touch it’. He gave me a friendly smile as he did it but I couldn’t contain my stink eye, and had my son been in my Ergo and not in my arms, I might have smacked his hand, or punched his throat.

In that instant it hit me how often I have let it go. People want to rub my son’s head just as often, though usually when he’s close to me people will at least ask, my poor daughter is the perfect height for wantering hands that just have  to know what her bouncy curls feel like.

Yes, they’re fabulous I know, but they also take a lot of work to get them that way and I have to start all over again after your grubby hands grace her sweet locks.

Yes, their curls are irresistible, but I beg of you, please, resist!
