I skipped the whole baby travel system thing with my other two kids. For one, none of my babies have been big fans of car seats, and they all loved to be held or worn in a baby carrier. Strollers and car seats seemed extra heavy and bulky, so we sorta skipped over the travel system stage.

Fast forward 5 to 8 years and there have been some improvements in the market. Strollers and car seats are more lightweight without sacrificing safety. And though I’m a babywearing aficionado, I’m finding a stroller can be handy more than I realized.

I’m using the RIVA Travel System by Safety 1st and there are plenty of reasons I love it. Here’s a few:

1. It’s lightweight and easy to store

One thing I haven’t liked about strollers in the past is how much of a hassle it is to open them up to use them, or get them to close back down when we’re packing up. The RIVA stroller weighs less than 18 pounds and the car seat is just 7.5 pounds. There are no crazy switches or trick levers to get it to fold or unfold I just pull up on the strap by the seat. I can fold it in one hand while holding a kid in the other. I can easily slide it into the back of my car. Or fold it and leave it self-standing in a corner when we bring it inside.

2. My big kids can help

More often than not, little Lee Lee is in a carrier and closer to my eye level than my other two kiddos. They are both so sweet and helpful that they absolutely love taking turns putting her in the stroller and assisting with pushing her around. It’s light and easy enough for them to help maneuver her. And it’s an easy way for my son especially, to feel like a helpful big brother.

3. Handy when shopping cartless

When I actually go inside to grocery shop, I typically wear my baby and push a shopping cart. When we’re at the mall, or a retail store that doesn’t have shopping carts my stroller comes in handy for holding all the things. Same thing goes when we go on family walks. There’s plenty of room to stash all the water bottles and snacks underneath the stroller in the storage basket even when I am still babywearing.

4. It’s made of recycled materials

My son is really into documentaries about ocean life, and we’ve been learning a lot about how much trash winds up in the ocean and how it hurts some of his favorite animals. So we were pretty darn excited to learn the the RIVA stroller is made with a special blend of recycled materials in a zero waste facility in Columbus, IN. The resin in the frame is made up of recycled potato bags and diaper tabs. The child tray and cup holders are actually made from a resin using their recycled car seats. 130,000 lbs of plastic is saved from the landfill!

5. It’ll last us

For now it’ll work great as an infant stroller with the car seat snapped in. As she gets bigger and masters sitting up by herself we’ll be able to use the stroller as a standalone. The car seat works until little Lee Lee hits 35lbs which, she’s chunky but hopefully won’t be for awhile. And thankfully the fabrics are easy to zip on and off and they’re machine washable, so we can easily spruce it up like new again on those horribly messy accidents.

So here I am, a late bloomer to the baby travel system club. It took 8 years and three kids. But now I’ve joined and I’m a proud card-carrying member.

Eight years ago we did a newborn photoshoot with Lil’ J and she mostly wasn’t having it. Little Lee Lee also, wasn’t really feeling like posing for photos when she was a week old. It must be a thing with my daughters. I think it’s because they don’t like to be set down. Our first try Lee Lee was awake almost the entire time. Giving us the stink eye in all her photos.

But still, I was really excited to get some done, and Lindsay was just as persistent and super patient with my little one and she managed to get some absolutely gorgeous photographs of my stubborn little chunker.

The only person less excited for pictures is my husband, but he cooperated for a few, even after Lee Lee peed on him in the middle of it all.

These are truly works of art and I can’t wait to blow these up and show them off in our new home.

I hope you enjoy these half as much as I do, and if you’re in the market for family or newborn photography in the Austin area, be sure to check out Lindsay Mac.

So, how’s your baby fever?

I spent nine months of my pregnancy freaking out about all of the changes ahead and how in the world this new little Sneaky would fit into our lives. Turns out little Lee Lee was just what we needed in our lives. I haven’t had baby fever in years. Now I find myself thinking this isn’t so bad, we should have one more to even us out (hypothetically speaking, a vasectomy is in the works).

Now I’m not trying to give the rest of you baby fever but if that happens… Well, I can’t blame you. Babies are so much more fun than I remember. And a big part of that could be because I’m more laid back about her than I was with the other two. I’m enjoying the little things like dressing her up in sweet layettes and squishing her cheeks together. All of my anxieties and fears aren’t attached to my infant, they’re evenly spread between each of my children and all the other stuff I have going on.

Basically what I’m saying is even though I’m sleep deprived and leaking all over, I’m not sweating the small stuff.

Lil’ J has been a big help. She is always happy to sit with her little sister while I run to the bathroom, take a phone call, or answer an email. She begs to hold her all the time, dress her, and play with her. I love watching her admiration for our little baby and I’m so excited to watch their relationship grow. She loves to set out outfits for her sister in the morning, and little organic cotton layettes from Apple Park for her at night.

Big T adores her too, though he shows it in a different way. He also begs to hold her, but loves playing with her when she’s in my arms. He doesn’t give kisses to anyone but his baby sister (and occasionally I’m lucky enough to get one out of him). He likes playing peekaboo and trying to make her laugh. I can’t even describe how good it feels to watch him step into this big brother shoes. It’s really something else. He likes to bring her toys and show them to her. Sometimes he’ll bring her one of her little Apple Park organic rattles and try to get her to hold it. But usually he’ll show her his toy dinosaurs. I’m pretty sure she’ll know the names and species of all of them by the time she’s two.

Now that the kids are in school I am getting some one-on-one time with her. It’s kinda weird, and extremely quiet. I can give her a bath without four other helping hands and soak in her sweet baby smell while she’s wrapped up in a soft hooded  towel or blanket.

When Lee Lee naps while the kids are home, I make a point to spend some one-on-one time with each of the big kids. We read, play with dinosaurs, do art, go on a walk or talk about their school day. It feels like just last year I was holding each of them in my arms, or carrying them around in my wrap. Having an infant has put a magnifying glass on how quickly time flies and made me appreciate this current stage so much more. When Lee Lee is Lil’ J’s age, Lil’ J will be 16. 16! If that’s not perspective I don’t know what is.

Though things have been going smoothly so far, I have to credit a big part of that to my husband, who has been off of work six weeks. I’ve heard people say with the third kid it’s like you’re drowning then someone hands you a baby. I’m not feeling that just yet but today is his first day back at work and by the end of the week I may be feeling completely different. Be prepared to throw me a life vest in case I’m going under.

The sweet bodysuits and layettes featured in this post are from Apple Park. I love them because they’re sweet gifts for new parents because they’re safe for children, better for the environment and always beautifully green. Ok I think I’m officially the worst blogger ever. For 10 years you’ve known it here first. But now in the days of blogging we’ve got Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and YouTube, Snapchat, Stories etc etc etc. I totally neglected to share here about the birth of our baby girl. In fact, today’s the first time I’ve logged into my blog dashboard since my last post. #Shame

Most of you I’m sure are connected to me somehow and saw that I announced her birth either on Facebook or Instagram. But I know that’s not the case for everyone, and I’m sorry. I’m going to make it up to you right now and make it up to myself. This here blog is my little corner of the internet and I shouldn’t do her like that.

So today I’m sharing a first look at these gorgeous newborn photos taken by the fabulous Lindsay Mac Photography. And sharing some details about my little girl.

She came July 19th by eviction (birth story coming soon!). She was a hefty 9 pounds 7 ounces. 21 1/4 in long. She loves breastmilk and long strolls in her baby wrap. Big brother and sister adore her. Mommy and Daddy are exhausted and in love.

Blog nickname pending but I’d prefer not to call her Sneaky forever. Maybe Baby A, though she won’t be a baby forever *tear*. I’m open to other suggestions.
