My husband and I agree, 2015 was the best year of our lives.

He moved to a day shift which to me, has been life-changing. Somehow, after 11 years of marriage, we seemed to grow even closer together. And we made so many wonderful memories together as a family.

Though I had many wonderful experiences throughout the year that made it such a great one, there were a lot of personal changes that really made the difference.

For one, I decided spending quality time with my family and doing work I truly love was more important than my bottom line. I didn’t quit my job working every weekend and holiday as a full-time anchor and reporter so I could work weekends and holidays as a blogger.

Funny enough, in 2015 I found when passion became my motivator, money came much easier.

Something happened in the middle of the year. I can’t pinpoint exactly how or when, but there came a point when I really stopped caring what other people thought I should be doing, and started really thinking about what I wanted.

I think part of this hit me at the realization of turning 30. It’s something I’ve been dreading for the last couple of years. The closer this new decade of life crept, the more I’d agonize. But I’ve had a realization that a new decade, like a new year, gives me a chance to reevaluate my life and set new goals.

I’ll go more into my decade goals soon. As for 2016, a lot of the same: Continue to work less, play more, and marry the two whenever possible.

New Years Goals 2016

  • Spend more quality time with each of my kids and husband, together and individually.
  • Find at least one moment to cherish every day.
  • Spend more time with our pup Snoop.
  • Cook or create with Lil’ J at least once a week.
  • Organize and print more photos for my home.
  • Get ready (hair and makeup done) at least 2-3 times a week.
  • Use my talents to give back (I’m brainstorming creative ways to do this).

Lil’ J is setting some goals again as well. She wants to earn money, keep practicing her dance and gymnastics, and become a better reader. She also wants to help me cook.

We used the all-new Sears app and went on a little resolution shopping spree and got some items to help us out. Some ink for our printer to help with printing photos. Mixing bowls and measuring cups and a basting brush. To be honest I’m not even sure what else we need to get going. I will probably get a couple more casserole dishes and go from there once we get to cooking and see where we lack.

To hold myself accountable I’m hoping to share at least one meal a month we make together here on the blog, along with Lil’ J’s review. She’s a picky eater but she will always try the food when she’s involved with making it.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m excited to make some memories together in the kitchen this year. I don’t like cooking, but seeing her light up when she gets involved makes it all worth it.

What are your resolutions this year? Want to get in shape? Sears is the #1 fitness retailer. What tools will help you achieve your goals? “Is it bedtime yet?”

I don’t know how many nights I’ve looked at the clock and asked that question this year.

Then, it never fails, I open up my folder of pictures from the past year, or scroll through the videos on my phone and I’m overcome with so much guilt, remorse, and longing for those moments back.

The days are long but the years are short.

In the world of parenting, there are no truer words.

Today is the last day of the year. The last day of an amazing year with these two kids who are my world.

This year we’ve traveled together, learned new skills, and really began to see both of their personalities flourish.

I’m so excited for this year ahead. For the chance to try again. To soak it all in a little more. A chance to enjoy the long days, and maybe make the years a little less short.

Last year I made a video wrapping up 2014 and I treasure it so much. I’m trying to keep it up and do one each year. The past few weeks have been busy and fun with traveling and family visits so I was finally able to sit down and start working on it last night. Here’s a look back at 2015 in under four minutes.

Instead of doing my usual editing in Final Cut, I decided to take the easy way out and to throw a bunch of video clips and pictures into Animoto and let the program do all the work.

I did this a few years ago to make a Father’s Day video moved my husband to tears. That was a first I witnessed.

Anyway, I recommend this program is perfect for people who know little to nothing about video editing, or just want a an easy way to make a video fast. Just pick a song, upload your files, choose the background you want, and rearrange the order. It’s a lot like making a photo book. For me, the hardest part is finding just the right song, but there are many to choose from.

I’d love to challenge you to make a video of your year. Take an hour to unload those pictures and videos off your phone and turn them into something beautiful. Make a lasting legacy for your family.

You can try Animoto for free for two weeks (I used the free version when I made the video for my husband). If you love it and decide to upgrade, use my code: “babymaking20” to get 20% off.

Thank you for taking a look back at 2015 with me, and for tagging along on our journey. I hope along the way you’ve been inspired to make beautiful memories with your family.

Happy New Year my friends!

*A big thanks to Animoto for their awesome program and providing a code to share with my readers. This story was sponsored by Animoto, and as usual, all opinions are my own.

A few things…

1. We still don’t have internet at our new house, which makes things like blogging way harder than it should be, generally keeps me in a constant annoyed state, and explains my less frequent postings lately. Hopefully the internet company will get their act together soon.

2. I got an iPad mini for Christmas (good job hubs!) and although I don’t have wifi to fully enjoy it, I was still able to tether from my phone to my computer, download a couple books and hard wire them back to my iPad. I’m currently on the second book in the Divergent series and loving it. Another reason for my less frequent blogging. Good books tend to keep me off the computer.

3. My husband and I celebrated our 9th anniversary and got away for a night thanks to my awesome mother-in-law, who watched our kids. It was much-needed time to ourselves.

4. Still working on my resolutions. One of my main hopes was to read more, and I’m pretty sure I’m on a roll in that department right now. Will share the rest of my goals and rehash last year’s soon.

5. Lil’ J and I saw Frozen last Friday and WOW! Loved it! Bought two songs on iTunes and can’t get “Let it Go” out of my head. Will post another Top 10 Disney favorites list.

6. Also will be working on a video-editing tutorial series soon.

Ok so that was more than a few…

And because I failed to share this glorious photo earlier… Lil’ J was happy to see Santa once again last month/year but Big T was NOT a fan.

sad with santaHappy New Year everyone!
