We Just Paid Off Our House! This is How We Reached Our Big Goal
“Paid in full”
I turned to my husband and showed him the subject line of the email we’d just received from our mortgage company. We did it!

For some context, “T” is my 7-year old son. He loves animals and action. Jayda is my 10-year-old daughter who LOVES Disney movies and she’s a true critic.
They both typically really enjoy the new Disney movies but are honest with their opinions about what they like and didn’t like. Towards the end of the review you’ll see comparisons to some of the other movies we’ve seen. At the very end of the post there are links to some of our other reviews if you’d like a comparison to what we initially thought of some of the other Disney new releases.
School is looking vastly different for all of us this year, but there’s no reason we can’t spread some of that joy throughout the week. Whether you’re doing school at home, or getting ready for homeroom, little snacks and activities to look forward to during the week can bring some joy to your week. And a little something I’ve noticed with my kids… You don’t need to create some elaborate activity for each day. Sometimes just a cool name for what you’re doing + a “Feel-Good” snack is all you need.
Here are some ideas for fun ways to kick off the start of the school year.
I figured I might as well officially document some of my thoughts on this experience here on my blog. I mean, I did document the planning, conception and birth of my three children and this is probably one of the most significant events in our lifetimes thus far–Globally speaking.
We have been at home for 46 61 days now. Well, Ty has REALLY been home the longest. Sometimes his sisters will run with Daddy to pick up some chick-fil-a, or I’ll go do grocery pickup, he hasn’t even gone on a car ride. Mostly because playing with his toys or watching a movie sounds more fun than a food run.
Onward is Pixar’s latest movie to hit theaters, but sadly the run was cut short because of the pandemic. Good news is it’s already available on digital home video, and will be available to stream on Disney+. We got started on making a Pixar Onward Dessert that you can enjoy with your family while you watch Onward together. And don’t forget to download our free Pixar movie watchlist to check this movie off your list. And follow me on Instagram for more digital checklists.
Thursday morning at 9am, I felt like a crazy person as I urged the parents in our cheer group chat that we should not go to the competition in Galveston this weekend. I’m normally a pretty confident person, but sticking your neck out with an unpopular opinion is uncomfortable.
“Seriously, it is like a flu. We aren’t going to die.” A mom replied after I voted “no” to attending.
This Black History Month I have been so hyped for all of the Black stories and Black Girl Magic happening around the internet. In years past I’ve tried to do roundups of some of my favorite books for Black History Month. This year, I’ve kept my eyes open and tried to share many of my cool findings, across several categories.
I wanted a post I could come back to to find some of the best moments from Black History Month this year.
These are things that came across my life and/or feed, and some were crowdsourced from my Instagram audience. I’ve also thrown in some of my personal favorites like in my opinion, the best children’s book celebrating dark skin that every family should have on their bookshelf. I read it to my son’s first grade class a couple months ago and I had parents messaging me later asking for the name of the book.
From books to commercials to people gone viral. Here’s a compilations of 20 of the best moments from Black History Month 2020. I’m sure some epic moments still slipped through so please share other things you’ve seen this month or even this YEAR so we can keep this blackity black year going!
I must admit, after seeing Onward I can understand why Disney is creating so many sequels, and live action remakes. We’ve built a connection with characters we’ve grown to love before we even walk in the door. I stepped into the Onward screening knowing a little bit about what to expect aside from what I saw in one trailer to get a taste. We didn’t know if we would get attached to the new characters. I walked out feeling as though I liked them, I don’t love them. And the movie was cute. But not the spectacular story I’ve come to expect from Pixar.
As my 6-year-old son stuck his long lanky arms through his polo shirt, he walked up to me to button the collar and asked “Mom, will you still be alive when I grow up?”
“Yes,” I said. Immediately and instinctively. A knee-jerk reaction wanting to coax my child away from fear.
“How do you know?” He asked.
“Mom, I want to do that!” Those six words were the start of something new. My daughter spotted the competitive cheerleaders walking into the gym in their practice uniforms getting ready to warm up, while she was finishing up her tumbling class. My daughter had been taking some recreational gymnastics, dance and tumbling classes on and off, but competitive cheer? This was new.
Our family has a weekly movie night tradition that goes like this: Every Friday night is movie night. For dinner we usually make or order pizza. Popcorn is a must, and a themed dessert is a maybe. We take turns choosing the movie. When it’s your turn you get to pick the movie and no one else is allowed to argue with your choice. No devices or extra screens allowed on movie night. Just family time. Movies, fun and food.
These are Aladdin-inspired donuts. Perfect for anything from an Aladdin party theme for a birthday party, a Princess Jasmine party, to an Aladdin themed movie night like our own. One of the BIG requirements with things we make is the recipe must be SIMPLE. I know how it is to be short on time, short on creativity, but full of love for your family. You want to do something fun without a ton of mess but that can bring lasting memories. This next recipe may be just the thing you guys make and love and recreate over and over again.
My kids have gone to see every Disney animated movie with me in theaters since they were born, so their opinions are important to me. If you’e been watching all of the Frozen 2 trailers and you’re wondering if the movie is scary for kids. Or too dark scary, or confusing, here are important takeaways from my 6 and 9-year-old.
