Just 38 days until Ladybug’s due date! Time to pack my hospital bag! So continuing my Virtual Baby Shower, meet Babytime Bags!
Without a doubt, packing for the hospital has been one of the most exciting parts of pregnancy for me. It’s up there with decorating the nursery. To me it’s like packing for a big vacation. We will leave our home as parents-to-be and return with a new little munchkin. SO EXCITING! It took everything in me to keep from packing my bags at the start of my second trimester. When I’m planning a vacation I love to shop and get my bags organized weeks in advance. Of course the daily hygienic things I keep out until the day before, but sometimes I go as far as to buy new travel-sized things just for the trip. I keep adding to the bag as I go and it’s just a fun thing I like to do to build up the excitement of my impending trip!
It’s the same way with getting ready for my trip to bringing Ladybug home, but trying to remember everything for this trip can be a little stressful, especially since there are so many things to remember: Birth wishes letter, my adorable hospital gowns, Ladybug’s special hats… Plus all of the regular stuff people bring like shampoo and toothpaste.
Problem solved with one of the most glorious things I’ve seen in all of my pregnancy, the pre-packed labor hospital bags from BabyTime Bags.
The woman behind them is Nia. When she was pregnant with her first son she was under an enormous amount of pressure trying to find a house to buy and she ended up on bedrest for the month prior to his birth due to her high blood pressure.
She wanted to pack her hospital bag herself and just couldn’t leave it to her hubby to do (which can’t we totally understand?) Being the web-addicted person she is, I tried searching for pre-packed hospital bags. Figuring out what to put in the bag was a bit overwhelming too, so she was hoping this would help.
“I searched high and low with all manner of search terms and only came up with one company {which is still in business and shall remain nameless},” she said. “I wasn’t that enthused with the bag and was even less so when I received it. But it served it’s purpose and I added a ton of stuff to it.” “I’m a crazy multi-tasker and had been trying to come up with a business to start, but was still looking for that business idea that filled a void. Voila! I realized, ‘Hey, there have to be other mommies-to-be out there like me, and there’s only this one company and they aren’t that great. And I know I can do it MUCH better.’ And from there Babytime Bags was created!”
She wanted to start her own business(es) because she knows how hard it is to juggle a family and a career where someone else calls the shots. “As so many other mompreneurs have discovered, while you may work harder when you work for yourself, it’s more rewarding and can be done easier when your time and location is flexible,” she added!
So check out her marvelous invention! They sent me a bbLux bag, stuffed with all sorts of goodies! In fact, so much awesomeness I decided to vlog about it! So watch to see the goodies!
I love love love it so much! There’s also a letter inside that has a reminder of other things to pack that aren’t included. Knowing that I’d need to fit my birthing ball and my hospital gowns in too, (plus bows, blankets and hats for Ladybug… Oh, and my husband’s stuff) I did get an additional bag to go with it to pack the extra things they suggest (and more). I got this adorable coordinating duffle from The Groovy Mommy Etsy shop! She was so sweet too, and the bag and monogram was only $25! So… if you need more space, check her out. They could match any Babytime Bag you get (my little discovery!)
Nia has been married for 4 years to her law school sweetheart and they have one son and another on the way (our due dates are close!!).
She loves to travel, especially to Barbados, and doesn’t have pets cause she says her 3 boys are enough, but she has some great new mama advice for me!
{NewMama Advice}
“I think the best piece of advice is not to be afraid to let stuff go. Don’t try to do everything you did before AND get adjusted to a little one all at the same time. That is hard to do when you are a multi-faceted, hard-working, multi-tasking person and you’re used to doing everything {and doing it well}! But until you get the hang of it {and that could take a year or 2} it’s okay to focus on baby/family and get to the other stuff when you can. Delegate {especially to hubby}. Make sure you get rest. And enjoy every second of your little one.”
Great advice from a great mama! So, would you like one of these awesome bags?

I really like the blue paisley, but I think the all black is perfect. I had no idea the bag was so big when looking at it next to the door until the pic with it on your shoulder. This is definitely something for me to bookmark for the future.
Mama advice: Get professional baby photos. Do the little ceramic handcast. Buy your baby something really special just from you that she can treasure when she gets older.
Dad advice: I so wish my husband (or anyone) would have thought to buy me and the new baby flowers for the hospital room.
This is a great giveaway! I love love love these bags. I’d have a hard time choosing a color, but I think the all black with pink symbol would be the way to go.
I love the Bag in any of the Paisley Designs, but my absolute favorite would be the Pink Paisley! It would be perfect for the little girl I hope to have soon!
Another bit of advice would be: It is okay to let your baby cry once in a while. If you have done everything you can for her and know that there is nothing wrong with her and she is still fussy, let her cry it out! It is easier said than done, but in the long run, this will help you out tremendously, but most of all, it will help her be a strong independent child who can self-soothe and thus be a more happy baby overall.
I just had my shower and my favorite “New momma advice” cards came from my dad- they were all things we did as kids (like pouring flour all over the kitchen and having a “snow day” inside) and how not to let your kids do that. =)
Otherwise my favorite (and most common) was not to let the small things get to you, babies are tough work and trying to do it all will just stress you out- which will stress out the baby… take it easy and be calm and that is how they will be.
Breastfeeding advice: Watch this: http://video.about.com/breastfeeding/Breast-Feeding-Latch-Position.htm -don’t be timid, get a good grip on your breast and shove as much of your breast into her mouth as you can. be quick! -put the lansolin cream on your nipples after every feeding (even if your nipples don’t hurt yet)(baby can eat the lansolin with no harmful effects) -if baby’s not getting a good latch, let her practice sucking on your finger before trying to re-latch: rub the roof of her mouth (front to back, front to back)with the pad of your finger. It triggers her sucking reflex because when she’s sucking correctly, the breast will rub against the roof of her mouth like that. (try it with your own mouth to see what I mean) -never pull your nipple out of her mouth. always break the latch first by putting your finger in the side of her mouth to break the suction first. Otherwise your nipple will hurt sooner. -Don’t let baby fall asleep instead of eating. rub under her chin. rub/tickle the bottoms of her toes. Talk to her. Unwrap her blankets. the milk makes her warm and sleepy…she should eat atleast 10 minutes before falling asleep. -for letdown, take a deep/relaxing breath and as you breath out release all the tension in your body and imagine it falling down into the bottoms of your breasts. -baby’s neck can’t be twisted. (try swallowing with your own neck twisted all the way to one side – it’s harder/uncomfortable to swallow.) -Jaundice: if she has jaundice, let your hubby give her just 1 bottle of formula each day until the jaundice is gone. (it’s tons better than keeping your baby in the biliruben suitcase your first week home and it totally works.) Your baby can handle one feed a day without getting confused. Just repeat the roof-of-mouth trick…and hubby will appreciate the chance to bond like that. -pump in the hospital to help your supply come in stronger. pump the watery milk off the second breast while she’s eating…then baby will get more of the hind milk on the second breast each time you feed her. -it’s normal for baby’s to lose weight in the first week. don’t let the pediatrician push you off breastfeeding. -if you’re going to breastfeed, commit to 2 weeks. It can take that long sometimes for baby and mom to get everything worked out just right. After that it’s easy peasy. –
wow what an awesome hospital bag! It definitely has everything you’d need! When I went to the hospital to have my first I didn’t take tons of what I should have! LOL!!! I love the pink paisley bag, its so cute!
In the next couple of days, I will be getting the go ahead for a new store in another state– and in anticipation of a new start, moving, etc… I have been packing up everything but the necessities in our house. Craziness. lol.. I can only imagine how I’ll be when I’m nesting for real.. 🙂
I really like the BbBasic bag since it seems to have everthing you need. Any of the other stuff you might want you can add in your favorites. I also like the black with the pink stroller because you can still get it if you are having a boy since it isnt too girlie
Oh my goodness, how adorably cute and great is that. I would choose the Black Microfiber with pink carriage. My favorite bag would probably be bbPreme.
I LOVE the bbPreme bag! I love that they include a “pretty” hospital gown AND a nursing gown in it! I love the EarthMamaAngelBaby stuff that is in this bag! And my favorite fabric is the pink paisley.
I think, as a future mama myself, the best advice I got from my mom regarding breastfeeding was to look up a La Leche League group in my local area. I have been going since 4 months pregnant, and have already learned an invaluable amount of information. I look forward to continuing to attend with my little Caroline, once she is born, for continued info and support! If you’re at all interested in breastfeeding, I’d definitely recommend you do the same! And buy the book ‘The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.’ It is the breastfeeding Bible, in my opinion, and it also talk a lot about the nurturing attitude/character of being a mother. Love it!
My piece of mom advice~ Always go with your gut! If you think something is wrong and friends and family are insisting your baby is fine~ Call your Doctor!
I love the BBLuxe in the pink microfiber. It would be wonderful to not have to worry about packing a huge bag when its my turn to go to the Hospital. My due date is Aug. 1st, 2010.
Do not give up on breast-feeding unless you absolutely have to. With my son I had a very hard time with figuring it out and getting him to latch on. I kept trying and was pumping at first but didn’t have a very good pump which resulted to a breast infection. I decided to try again and get him to latch on and one day we both seemed to figure it out and he was breast-fed until 18 months. You can do it, the beginning may be frustrating but keep working on it and you’ll get there for sure!
My piece of new mama advice (not that you would do this because you seem so organized) but write things down because youwill forget – maybe not tomorrow but you will forget before you pull out the baby book – so either jot it down for later entry or keep the baby book handy.
Mama advice: Don’t cook for a month. Seriously. the best thing that happened to me when my second was born. I had everyone else take care of it. Cooking was the LAST thing on my mind and the last thing I needed to do. Sleep instead and don’t feel guilty about it.
New mama advice: Don’t confine yourself too much because you’re afraid you won’t be able to juggle the baby and everything else. Get out of the house within the first 10 days, even if it’s just to go to the park. You’ve got to learn sometime; might as well do it as soon as you’re physically able to! I know lots of moms who end up with PPD, and the biggest reason is isolation.
another piece of advice for you is to sleep when baby sleeps and enjoy your baby. Try not to be a bundle of nerves and set high expectations. Soak her in and get to know her. Give her all the affection you want to, and go on her schedule for a bit.
I wold love to get the Preme Bag for my Best Friend- we were due 2 weeks apart- and even though mine was lost- I am still so happy for her and want to shower her with the best gifts I would have loved to have! 🙂
My advice- after 2 kids 12 months apart- my only advice is: LET YOUR HUSBANDS HELP YOU! I was so OCD and wanted to do everything myself and be super mom- and I almost came to a breaking point. Let your husbands help you- They actually WANT to do so much more than we give them credit for! And you will keep your sanity! 🙂
What a great idea…I’m due with a little girl on June 23 and am in the midst of packing a hospital bag now! I’d love one of these. Anyway, my favorite bag – it’s a toss up between the pink microfiber and the pink paisley…both SOO cute!
New mama advice: Don’t be afraid to try cloth diapers if you’re at all interested. I was too scared to do it with my first, but took the plunge with my 2nd and love it! kimhigueria at gmail dot com
Well oooobviously I love the bbPreme bag. 😉 Awesome! I think it only comes in the paisley. This is an awesome giveaway – wouldn’t it be nice to have to do minimal packing and maybe actually have everything you need? lol
Okay let me think of more new mama advice… don’t fret about all the things people tell you you should do or the baby should be doing. I was worried that I should have had my baby on a nap schedule, she should have been eating this or that, or I should be … you get it. 🙂 Just relax and enjoy your baby! Excited for you!
My advice is that you can never hold your baby too much when they are little – don’t listen to people who tell you they’ll get spoiled if you hold them too much! courtneycopeland729 at gmail dot com
I love this idea and you have such quality products included. I like the black microfiber with the green Pram.I liked on facebook too! Good luck to everyone. Baby advice…Dance with your baby once a day. It’s a great way to bond and instill music appreciation. 🙂
Absolutely in love with the bbLuxe in Black Microfiber with blue pram. I will add this to my wishlist for our son due in October after 12 years of TTC! Thanks for sharing this goldmine of a site, LOVE IT!
New mommy advice, my second child just had his first birthday, and I think the one thing I have enjoyed looking back at for both my kids is the daily journal I kept for the first three months of their life. I would write ten minutes at night about the day and I also used it to keep track of feedings, poops and pees, and also my meds for the first couple of weeks. I had C-sections. couponsiwant(at)verizon(dot)net
BBLuxe in black microfiber with hot pink- my sister is having a baby and those are the colors of the nursery and what we used for the baby shower. I too tried to find a premade bag for her… I created a snack bag so her and her hubby would have some of their favorite drinks and snacks at the hospital.
Try not to worry too much (I know, easier said then done) about every little thing. It will make it much easier to transition into your new role as a mommy. Plus, you will enjoy the whole experience much more!
new mama advice: don’t give up your interests just because you’re a mom. baby j came to live with you and your husband; you two didn’t come to live with her.
I love your blog! Just found you through SITS. Just learned I am expecting my third baby! I love the the bbLuxe bag. Those are awesome. Would have been handy for the first two!
My tip that I read somewhere once is how to get a new baby to go to sleep… When you put your baby to bed, put a light cloth over his eyes (not the nose) and the cloth will work to eliminate visual stimulation. Once your baby falls asleep, you remove the cloth. yummyfaerie at hotmail dot com
Love the bbPreme in blue paisley. It’s perfect because not only does it come with an outfit to wear home and a nice hospital gown (lord knows the ones in the hospital are horrid!) but the bag is a perfect weekender bag!
New Mama Advice: The best time to schedule a doctor’s appointment for your baby is first thing in the morning or right after lunch. The doctor is at his most attentive during these times.
New mama advice: always reserve time for you and your partner! Date nights are so important to get out of the house, have an excuse to dress up, and take time to talk about non-baby related things and keep your spark alive!
My New Mama advice is to do what you think is right for your baby. What worked for other people may not work best for your baby, and you know your baby best.

First of all, your hospital bag must be the most stylish hosptial bag I’ve ever seen. Secondly, do you mind if I share my hospital bag experience with you and your readers?
You’re told to pack for a long labour. In fact, they almost make it sound like you are going on holiday. Advice like: buy yourself a nice new nightie and pack yourself some smellies to make yourself feel better – are completely useless. Now here’s my advice. Do NOT go to the bother of buying yourself a nice new nightie. You will NOT be wearing it. Nor would you want to as you will bleed afterwards and be very uncomfortable and who wants to ruin their new nightie? Just stick to the blue hospital gowns – yes the backless ones where everyone sees your bum and over which is written “Property of This Hospital”. Believe me, when you are in labour you really will not care what you look like. And afterwards, you will want to burn whatever you were wearing at the time.
As for the smellies, you will not be taking long lingering showers. Apart from the fact that you will be exhausted, weak, sore and bleeding, you just won’t feel like it.
My Hospital Bag consisted of the following:•Snacks for me for labour (never even opened) •Snack for my husband for the labour (never even opened) •A pack of cards (seriously, what was I thinking??) •Romantic music (see comment above) •Candles (don’t laugh) •Massage oil (see comment above) •Magazines for me (are you serious?) •A book for my husband (not a chance he was going to read that) •Nice new undies (remained new until the baby was 3 months old – no way I was ruining those) •Nice new nighty and dressing gown (stuck with ‘Property of this Hospital’ gown •Baby Clothes, nappies, muslins etc. (This was the only useful stuff I packed) •My wash things (toothbrush, brush etc…made me feel human) •Leaving hospital outfit, maternity bras etc. (Note: your pre-preggie jeans are not a good idea)
The only slightly useful items packed in the hospital bag were for the baby and my wash things. You’ll see that I was under the incorrect illusion that Hubbie and I would be spending lots of our labour eating gourmet delights, listening to romantic music by candlelight and playing cards. Not even close. The one thing I will say is make sure you pack some soft baggy pants/ maternity leggings and a large floaty top for leaving the hospital. I was convinced that once the baby was out then I would fit straight into my pre-pregnancy jeans. Not only was I not even close to being able to fit into them, I really didn’t want anything tight on or around me. Jeans were the last thing I wanted to wear. So, pack yourself a floaty skirt or generous trousers. Anything that gives you ‘room’, and don’t forget the maternity bras to make feeding easier.
I do not even know the way I ended up here, but I believed this publish used
to be great. I don’t realize who you’re but certainly you are going to a well-known blogger in
the event you are not already. Cheers!

notes on how to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding advice:
Watch this:
http://video.about.com/breastfeeding/Breast-Feeding-Latch-Position.htm
-don’t be timid, get a good grip on your breast and shove as much of your breast into her mouth as you can. be quick!
-put the lansolin cream on your nipples after every feeding (even if your nipples don’t hurt yet)(baby can eat the lansolin with no harmful effects)

-Don’t let baby fall asleep instead of eating. rub under her chin. rub/tickle the bottoms of her toes. Talk to her. Unwrap her blankets. the milk makes her warm and sleepy…she should eat atleast 10 minutes before falling asleep.

-baby’s neck can’t be twisted. (try swallowing with your own neck twisted all the way to one side – it’s harder/uncomfortable to swallow.)

Love it!

My tip that I read somewhere once is how to get a new baby to go to sleep… When you put your baby to bed, put a light cloth over his eyes (not the nose) and the cloth will work to eliminate visual stimulation. Once your baby falls asleep, you remove the cloth.

New mama advice: always reserve time for you and your partner! Date nights are so important to get out of the house, have an excuse to dress up, and take time to talk about non-baby related things and keep your spark alive!
I like bbPreme in black with pink logo.
I love the black microfiber bag!
My New Mama advice is to do what you think is right for your baby. What worked for other people may not work best for your baby, and you know your baby best.
I love the purple paisley design bag the best, thanks for the chance!

BBLuxe in black microfiber with hot pink- my sister is having a baby and those are the colors of the nursery and what we used for the baby shower. I too tried to find a premade bag for her… I created a snack bag so her and her hubby would have some of their favorite drinks and snacks at the hospital.

New Mama advice: Grab a nap whenever you can!
What a great idea…I’m due with a little girl on June 23 and am in the midst of packing a hospital bag now! I’d love one of these. Anyway, my favorite bag – it’s a toss up between the pink microfiber and the pink paisley…both SOO cute!

So cute and creative!!
My Hospital Bag consisted of the following:•Snacks for me for labour (never even opened)
•Snack for my husband for the labour (never even opened)
•A pack of cards (seriously, what was I thinking??)
•Romantic music (see comment above)
•Candles (don’t laugh)
•Massage oil (see comment above)
•Magazines for me (are you serious?)
•A book for my husband (not a chance he was going to read that)
•Nice new undies (remained new until the baby was 3 months old – no way I was ruining those)
•Nice new nighty and dressing gown (stuck with ‘Property of this Hospital’ gown
•Baby Clothes, nappies, muslins etc. (This was the only useful stuff I packed)
•My wash things (toothbrush, brush etc…made me feel human)
•Leaving hospital outfit, maternity bras etc.
I hope that helps! Love Jacqui visiting from http://www.ifonlytheytoldme.com
I do not even know the way I ended up here, but I believed this publish used
to be great. I don’t realize who you’re but certainly you are going to a well-known blogger in
the event you are not already. Cheers!
