At first glance, his eyes drew me in, and to this day, that’s still one of my favorite features about my husband. Now, those same round bright eyes belong to my children, and I can’t choose a favorite pair. His eyes had me at hello, but his dedication, loyalty, and rock-hard abs made me say “I do.”

But this entry isn’t about my favorite features possessed by my kids or husband, but what I think he loves most about me. A few years ago I definitely would have gone the physical route said my butt. These days I’m not so sure about that.

CIMG3071A moment from our pre-baby days. When we had nicer abs and better butts.

A few weeks ago I asked him for ideas and I think he said something to the effect of: “You’re nice.” Well, thanks pal!

No, actually, my husband is generally a man of few words but he had a lot to say on this topic this night. He likes more about me than I thought—Er, no, I mean, more than we normally talk about.

But what I think he loves most, and what he’s mentioned to me on more than one occasion is that I’m a hard worker. He thinks I’m a good mom, and good at what I do. And he’s under the illusion that I’m good at balancing work, and being a mom. He appreciates all the coordinating, feeding, cleaning, and butt-wiping that goes into my day.

He pretty much let’s me be the record-keeper of the family, but he loves looking back at photos, and videos I did a year ago and knows he can be like “hey where’s that video from XYZ?” and I’ll be able to pull it up.

It was nice hearing the things he loves about me, and telling him what I love about him. A great, free post-bedtime couples therapy session if you will. We spend an enormous amount of time working around each other’s schedules, and focusing on taking care of the little people in our home, it was good to consciously focus on each other as the topic. And a great reminder to thank each other for the hard work we do but now often take for granted.

This was Day 18 of the installment of 30 Things my kids should know about me.

What you just shared is so beautiful and critical to a healthy sustainable partnership! I’ve followed your blog for a while now and this is my first comment, yay 🙂

I think it’s always great to take a moment to bring it all back into focus. I think so many couples get lost because they don’t take the time to remember what made them fall in love with each other or to discover new things that they love about each other.

You are so right! We’re making an effort to go on more dates. Even at-home dates, and it’s been nice.
