I feel like obsessing over babies
You know when you’ve got a to-do list a mile long, and you keep putting it off again and again and again?
Well that’s sorta been what I’ve been doing for oh… Six months or so, with a video project I started for a beautiful family who had just had a homebirth.
They volunteered to let me come over and film some of their first moments as new parents less than 48 hours after their son was born. I’m calling it my Fresh 48 project. I hope to do more of these as well as birth and lifestyle family videos in the future, but I needed some awesome guinea pigs so I could show what I can do.
Harvey was born in June, I finished this project yesterday, just past my personal December 31st deadline. Better late than never right? The cool thing is he’s now six month old and this video gave his mama a bit of baby fever. … As well as myself. Which is good considering I’m getting my own little thang in three months (EEEP!)
So if you want baby fever too, watch this:

Don’t want baby fever? Well, that’s too bad cause this post is all about the cute newborns I’ve been around lately.
Another photo project I started AND finished in less than a week (GO ME!) was my first newborn session for a coworker. I did her maternity photos a couple of months ago and was happy to test out my new Christmas lens on her baby born 12-12-12!
Here’s a few of my favorite photos from the session:
And so there you have it. My sister-in-law also had her son this week. So I have a freaking adorable nephew now! They are in North Dakota though so I won’t get to meet him for a minute.
Needless to say, I had a bit of babies overload this week. But it was fantastic. I’m all revved up and ready to snuggle my own newborn again. I also wrapped up all of my pending projects and now I can focus on new ones, and have fun with my own.
I’m only four days into the new year and this doing whatever the eff I want thing is going awesome. Apparently this week I feel like being productive. Last night (tonight?) I made homemade strawberry banana ice cream with Lil’ J, then watched some Desperate Housewives while pigging out on pizza (I just got Netflix… I know I know, I’m the last person on Earth) And pregnancy insomnia kept me up all night to edit photos and write this lovely post for all to read. Pray I don’t pass out at my desk at work today, that would be embarrassing.

Beautiful video & photos! Definitely does give one baby fever. Darn it. lol
Grr.. I’m already starting to get baby fever and this doesn’t help. I know I want one more and I don’t want to wait too long. My #2 is little older than lil J. My #1 starts Kindergarten in the fall. DH starts a new job in 2 weeks and he’s not there yet (baby wise). I put the bug in his ear that maybe after his 90 days we could try. He wasn’t too excited about me bringing it up. I’ll have to use your guide to convince him. Lol. I’ve done it twice before so I know the drill. He has 90 days to think about it. Lol.
Oh and what new lens did you get?? I’ll take your old one hahaha. J/k đ
Hehe. I got a Canon 100mm 2.8/L macro. I didn’t get rid of any of my others đ I’m sure you’ll be able to change his mind after 90 days, hehe. Good luck!
When my to-do list is forever long, I get overwhelmed and don’t get much done. But when I give myself permission to relax, it’s like the pressure’s off and that’s when I become the most productive. So weird! đ
The video looks so calm and peaceful….CLEARLY that couple does not have a crazy toddler running around, ha ha…or if they do you should have done a “meanwhile in the other room…”.
That video reminds me of when we had my first but things were MUCH different with the second.
Ok, I had to laugh so hard at your comment because you are SO RIGHT! I was thinking it would be fun to have something like this done myself but the scene would definitely be TOTALLY different with my crazy toddler on hand. “Meanwhile in the other room…” I’ll hafta remember that. haha! Thanks so much for your comment Traci!
These are beautiful. I’ve definitely got baby fever now. You need to come to North Carolina and do our newborn photos when we decide to have number 2.
I definitely already have baby fever. This post was beautiful…I loved the video and the photos! I think I may have to start having monthly incentives for not being pregnant like you did this last time you were TTC!
Beautiful video and pictures Jen! =)
Thank you so much Ty!
I want another one! NOW!!!! AH!!!!!
What a beautiful video! Captures the indescribable love that washes over you with your first born. The music is wonderful as well!!
I have been following your blog for a couple of months now. I too am in a biracial marriage and have a daughter (Layla). She is 18 months. I loved your letter to your daughter. My favorite was the new bedtime routine and how when your husband does it, it goes much faster. Lol. I can relate! When you describe your love (the best you can) I feel it in my heart because I feel the same way about my daughter!
I’m so happy I came across your blog one day and hope your second baby brings you just as much joy! If you lived in Atlanta, I would say we MUST be friends! đ (in a non stalkerish kind of way!)
Your photography is beautiful! I especially love the one of the parents standing near the window and the one emphasizing the blue wall with the baby’s name.
