Homeschool doesn’t always have to be at home. The kids and I like to get out for a field trip every couple of weeks to visit places around town. A little road trip for some fun and learning. Growing up, much of what I learned about Black History was in school, and you can imagine that was extremely limited. I want my kids to have an understanding of our past, so they can feel empowered moving toward their future.

Now you know me and my love of watching movies! But honestly, Black History movies are a great way to break the ice and educate our kids on diversity, inclusion, and race.

Diversity in film matters, and we are lucky to live in a time where we are able to show our children so many great movies centered around the stories of Black heroes. 🎬 💕

Jayda performed in her first play last month. She was Silena Beauregard in The Lightning Thief musical. I bought tickets to three shows and loved it all. She is at this fun age where she's paying attention to her own interests and talents and asking *me* to help her pursue things vs me doing all of the legwork. If it were up to her we'd be packing up and moving to California so she could pursue acting, but thankfully she's falling in love with local theater and having a blast here at home. Of all my kids she's always loved performing the most and been super dramatic her whole life. Their whole lives I've been very big on "go for your dreams!" but with three very different children on three very different passion paths I'm having to drink a dose of realism as we look at the price tag of options like private acting school and weighing wants vs needs.

She's gearing up for auditions this week for a part in the Addams Family Musical and walking around the house practicing. The only thing she talks about more is counting down to the Percy Jackson premiere (which isn't until sometime next year). This sure is a fun stage of parenting. Still exhausting, but fun 😜

Wish her a break a leg! (She told me not to say good luck).

37 trips around the Sun. Got to celebrate with people and things I love. I have the coolest family and friends who made me feel so special. Including my friend Brittani getting me a cake and having her friends sing happy birthday to me at her 40th birthday party 😆.

Then there’s Brian, who will do just about anything to make me happy and he and the kids gave me the best day full of laughs. I love him so much!

I have so much to be thankful for and I feel ridiculously lucky. Thanks for being here and watching me get old 😜
