Dress and reversible Capelet c/o a La Modish

Holy smokes!! Happy 11-11-11!

This week it got into the 60s, so I got a little excited and busted out some winter wear. I’m in love with this houndstooth dress and caplet. I liked it before trying it on her, and I contemplated saving it for her to wear in December around Christmas time but once I put it on her I realized I couldn’t wait. Since the caplet is reversible she can wear this a few times and it’ll at least look different.

It’s totally inspired me to try to step outside of the box when it comes to sewing. So far I’ve used lightweight cotton print fabrics but I can try even more with corduroy (which I typically am not a huge fan of but this has turned me into a believer) and other fun fabrics I’m just now discovering.

I can’t go crazy though because I already have tons of fabric I need to make dresses out of before I move on. I’m finding it’s fun to buy and fun to make but my desire to consume is faster than my desire to create. But I have created 8 dresses in the past month or so which isn’t too bad.

This dress she’s wearing is from a La Modish, which seriously has some of the most GORGEOUS boutique clothing I have ever seen. No joke. Matilda Jane has nothing on this store. If I could produce something this gorgeous I’d be tempted to quit my job and just make her things like this all day. But I can’t, so I’ll keep working and save for one every now and then.

You can also use code “BABYMAKER” to get 20% off your entire order from now to Thanksgiving. They have a great sales rack, but I have my eye on the Flower Fields and Plum Rose dress, one of them may end up being my daughter’s Christmas dress.

Now I  want to get a little caplet for myself. Look how Lil’ J is stylin like the stars!

What were your little ones sporting this week? Link up and show them off because I’d love to see!

I know Halloween is so last week but I didn’t get to show off cute photos of Lil’ J in her lamb costume because I was too busy falling asleep before 10pm (I’m very angry at myself about this… When I’m sleep deprived, I feel accomplished and productive, when I’m well rested, I suck at life).

So I wanted to let everyone see her in her cute costume. Note, the lighting at her school is weird, night photos obviously needed flash, and these aren’t edited at all (sorry, no time today). I made the body suit myself by gluing quiting batting squares closed after stuffing them with pillow/ stuffed animal stuffing.

Her hat I ordered from a friend… Mary Sue. She’s my hat lady and actually makes a lot of Lil’ J’s cool hats. I just send her a picture of what I’ve seen and she makes it, and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg.

I was so excited when I sent her a picture of the lamb hat I wanted made and imagined my daughter looking so cute in it. She told me when she put it in the mail and I knew it would only take a day or two to arrive. But when it did I was so confused because it didn’t look like a lamb hat. There were two pieces, and the hat was flat and round, like coasters. I flipped them around and tried to see how they maybe could be lamb ears but my imagination wasn’t seeing it.

I wrote her an email and asked her about the strange coasters “maybe my order got switched?” I asked. She told me it had, and apologized. But the coasters were actually Yamakas, and she had switched my order with another woman in New York. Boy, I wonder what that lady will think when she gets my lamb hat. I wondered.

So I sent the cute little Yamakas to the woman in New York (after they barely escaped the wrath of Lil’ J and Snoop), and she sent me the cute little lamb hat we had been waiting for. I was so eager to try it on her, I set it on top of her head and not knowing the whole story behind getting this hat, the first think my husband said was “it looks like a Yamaka.” But I just rolled my eyes and laughed to myself. I think I’ll forever remember the story behind this cute Halloween costume. PS: If you want my hat lady’s email met me know and I’ll hook you up! She’s already made some other cute hats for some of my readers!

Lil’ J trick-or-treated for healthy snacks at her school, we went to a Halloween party with my work friends, and trick-or-treating to a few houses on Halloween. I’m honestly surprised she let me put this thing on her that many times, but she’d laugh every time and loved when I painted her little black nose. Maybe because she knew people would admire her and give her treats. Either way, I think she’s such a trooper.

The hubs, me (Bo Peep) and Little Lamb

Sadly, I don’t think I got any cute pics of her just modeling her costume, but we at least got a good family shot of the three of us, which we never get these days. My husband was himself, which is scary enough. Did you dress up for Halloween?

I loved looking at all of your Mini Mod posts last week and many of you were ahead of the game and already showing off cute Halloween attire.

I loved this little Candy Corn dress I saw, and the sweet little Paisley in it at Lackey Antics. I’m going to have to make Lil’ J one next year. Stop by and tell her hi! And link up your little Mini Mods below. Of course these don’t need to be Halloween Themed, we’re just last season over here this week.

One thing I love about my daughter–Ok, I love everything about my daughter, but one thing I really love is the fact that she will wear and love just about anything I put her in–With the exception of some hats. But that’s ok because I’m not a huge hat fan either. I have my days, and so does she. Other than that, she will prance around in cowgirl boots, tutus, giant headbands, what have you, and not bat an eye.

Not only that, she’ll bring them back to be when I take them off. And now, when I grab a bow and hold it toward her to see if it will match her outfit, she reaches to her head as if to say “hey mom, it goes up here!”

That’s my girl!

Welcome  to Mini Mod! My weekly linky where you show off  up your stylish kiddo!

Strangers always say things to me like “Oh, enjoy it now, soon enough she’ll be pulling those bows out” or “My daughter used to wear bows, I miss those days.” I’m not sure how old their kids were or if they know how old my daughter is but if she doesn’t want to wear something, she lets me know already. There’s no protest on her behalf.

Others ask me how in the world she manages to keep them in. “Why doesn’t she pull them out?” they ask. I have no explanation–Except perhaps, the fact that she’s had something on her head or in her full head of hair since moments after birth.

That’s my girl!

If she grows up and turns into a tomboy, so be it. We’ll just have to make sure she’s a fashionable tomboy. But for now, I’m glad when I put her in something as pink and frilly as this, she can look back at me and give me this face.

What she’s wearing:
Baby Love Pettiskirt and Onesie: New at Lollipop Moon
Pink Clippie: Crafted by Mommy

Want it?
Lollipop Moon is one of my favorite online boutiques. They carry all sorts of adorable baby lines including Lollipop Moon, MudPie and One Posh Kid. I’m already scoping out their holiday sales for Lil’ J’s Christmas wardrbobe. They were one of the first boutiques to do a promotion with me and the continue to be so sweet to my readers and I. The owner is once again offering a $25 gift card to one of you.

To enter use the giveaway form below. Don’t worry, giveaways won’t be taking my blog over, I’ll be doing a select few. And I’m not going to offer a million different ways to enter. This is a new fun way I hope to administer giveaways going forward, to make it easier and more fair for everyone.

I’m bringing some giveaways back to my blog (but not becoming a “giveaway blog”). If you have an item you think fits the concept of my blog you’d like to have considered for a review or giveaway please email me.

Can’t wait to blog hop and see what you share this week. Link up above!

Don’t you love fall fashion? Sadly, here in Texas it doesn’t really feel like fall yet. It looks like it because of the drought, everything is brown, but it still feels pretty warm. So I’m not quite busting out the boots and leggings on a daily basis yet, but I’m enjoying the fall prints for my little mini me.

If you haven’t played before, Mini Mod is a weekly linky where you link up to a post where you show off your kiddos and what they’re styling in. If you remember, tell us where you got their cute clothes or accessories so we know where we can find it.

I did make her another dress this week but she hasn’t worn it yet since all month she’s wearing Halloween-themed clothes to school. Next month she’ll be decked out in fall attire. I did just get another sewing pattern for a bubble dress thanks to a sweet reader, and I can’t wait to use it to make Lil’ J another dress. I’ll probably show them off in an upcoming Mini Mod post. … Yes, now I have a fall sense of security in my sewing skills since I’ve managed to make two dresses without the use of glue or iron stitch.

Dress: Adelaide’s Boutique; Bow: Oh Sweet Baby Boutique

A few of you asked me if I’d make one for you and I’m telling you… You can do this! Just get some help from a friend to get going and you’ll pick it up. Plus, you don’t want one that I’ve made because up close you’ll see all of my imperfections.

As you saw a couple of weeks ago, and in many of my 365s, we love Adelaide’s Boutique. I think we have about five dresses of hers now. The owner is really sweet and one of the main reasons I decided to start giving sewing a try myself (and to save my pocket book).

Apple Orchard Dress: $39 Adelaide’s Boutique
Frayed Flower Bow: $8 Oh Sweet Baby Boutique

I loved looking at all of your Mini  Mod links, even though it took me all week. I’m going to try to visit right away this week. I had to share this adorable photo this week from Just Keep Swimming. Her little girl has the cutest hat (she always has cute hats!) from Lottie Da. Be sure to stop by and tell her and her little Mini Mod hi! Then link up to yours below so we can all go visit and blog hop.

Link up below and visit the others. Grab my button if you want too, or just link back so others can play along.

Top and Bottom: Gifted from China; Shoes: Cambria Laine

This week I made an appearance with Lil’ J. My friend Heidi recently went on a trip to China and brought back this adorable outfit for Lil’ J. I couldn’t wait to get it on her.

I’ve always been a huge fan of mandarin collars myself. I have a really long neck and I feel like they make my neck not appear as long.

My husband also has a long neck and we thought we’d have a giraffe baby but she came out with a perfect little neck that we could hardly see because of her triple chin. Now we can see it more but it’s still perfect, and not absurdly long like ours.

Anyway, like I said, I love mandarin collars and I didn’t realize how cute they’d look on a child. I want to find more this style for her.

My dress is from eShakti. I’m not sure if they’re still selling it but here’s one that’s similar. The standard dress had a regular collar but you can customize your dress length, sleeve type and collar type so I chose this collar for this dress and I love it. It also started sleeveless and sleeve length but I adjust it to elbow length sleeves and mid-calf length. I LOVE this site and have recently bought 4 dresses from them in the last two months and I genuinely love them all. I plan to keep buying at least two a month until I get sick of them, but I doubt that. Being 5′ 11″ it’s hard to find modest dresses in my size for be height and weight plus having sleeves, yada yada yada. I’m excited to stock my closet full of dresses again.

If you decide to check out the side and order something you can use code “BMM0811” to get $20 off until the end of October I believe. Yes, by you using that code I’ll also get a perk to use towards my next dress, so share away!

And please share your photos again this week. Link up below and I’ll stop by (sometimes it takes me a few days but I will visit) and return the favor to others who link up to blog hop.

I about died looking at all of last weeks links. Your kids are SO CUTE! I just have to show of Peyton from Baby Shopaholic this week though. Showing off her fall fashion wearing Uggs with her jean skirt. Too cute!

And next week I’m going to do my best to get this post up before midnight and include another Mini Mod Spotlight! Happy Friday!

I HATE LOVE shoes.

If you take me shoe shopping I will be bored out of my mind. With a size 11 shoe, everything either looks like it’s made for a clown, or non-existent. I was beginning to feel unwomanly thanks to my shoe demise. But that’s all changed since Lil’ J started walking about a month ago. Now have a new mission to hunt for adorable toddler shoes. And she is just as obsessed as I am.

Shoes via Immauel’s Closet; Bow via Simple Little Things

This month I got her her 3rd pair of cowgirl boots (she’s outgrown her other pairs), and some new Mary Jane style shoes with flair. She’s grown so accustomed to having something on her feet that when she doesn’t, she finds the nearest shoes and brings them to us and sits and whines until we put them on her feet. Oh, and we have to wear shoes too. She’ll bring me my shoes to put on and sit there waiting until I obey. When they’re on, she drags me to the door because then it’s time to go outside.

But it doesn’t stop there. Yesterday we ran into a store and she toddled over to the shoes. Grabbed one that was on display and tried to hand it to me to help put it on her.

I’m crating a monster.

I had always ordered her shoes by months according to the sizing on sites like Robeez or See Kai Run, but I finally figured out her feet are a size 4, while we were cruising down the shoe aisle at Walmart. I considered picking up the $10 pair of Mary Janes because they were sparkly, oh so cute, and only $10, but I said I’d search etsy first and see what else I could find.

I stumbled upon some adorable ADORABLE shoe stores, many of which I’ll be sharing with you in the near future, but the one I’m sharing today is Immanuel’s Closet.

I was posting some baby shoe sites I was finding on my facebook page when an email popped up from the owner of this store. My search for cute shoes ended right there and I died and went to shoe heaven.

Seriously, red bottom boots? Uggs? STOP IT SHUT UP!

It’s too much for me really.

Lil’ J got the Sasha pair to start with and I love them so much I took a billion photos of them. They are ivory, and very elegant, with gorgeous fluffy flowers on the end,  feather embellishments coming off the sides and a silver bead in the center. I’m amazed by the detail. So was Lil’ J because she kept trying to pull the flowers off and probably smell or eat them… Most likely eat. Luckily she hasn’t managed to destroy them yet.

Latasha, the owner of Immanuel’s Closet is as sweet as can be. She is not only a show maker but a lawyer–Go figure! Lil’ J’s shoes are made with walker soles, so they are a little more sturdy than her Robeez style, but not as thick as say sneakers or my heels.

I know some of you are looking at this going “Jennifer, what the *bleep* are you talking about? $50 for toddler shoes? You’ve lost your dang mind!” Right? Well, she has a deal I’m dying to get into. It’s her shoe of the month club. For $180 you get 12 pairs of shoes of your choice, a pair a month. Including those red bottoms you know you’ve been eying–Don’t lie. So that averages out to $15 a month. Look, I even did the math for you. You’re welcome.

I asked her what if she decides she hates making shoes in six months, but she promises me that won’t happen. I still need to ask if she accepts payments or layaway. I’ll get back to you on that.

So this is the first of several new shoes we have in our repertoire. I thought I’d change Mini Mod up this week and show off her feet. Considering how many shoes she’s been rocking lately, we’ll definitely have to do this theme again soon.

Check out this other Mini Mod diva here!

A spotlight from last week is Weather Anchor Mama and her little Princess. She’s showing off an over the top bow from Izzy’s Boutique. Be sure to stop by her blog and say hi!

What did you cutie wear this week? Link up and show me! I’ll pick another to spotlight next week!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted since Monday. But I kind of can. Especially since I’ve worked about 100 hours the past two weeks and seriously thought I was pregnant. It would have been a big shock to you and me but I’m happy to say I’m not with-spawn. I did buy 50 pregnancy test on Amazon for $9 to keep any future freakouts at bay.

Anyway, welcome to my third week of Mini Mod posts! It’s a chance to show off your kiddos sporting your favorite styles, and share where you shop. Link up below so others can visit you. If you want, link back here or grab the button to do so more can find it and link up too.

Dress via Savers; Bow via Izzy Diane’s Bowtique

Lil’ J may be getting some more teeth, or something because she did not have a happy day at school today. Her teacher told me she cried most of the day which broke my heart. She was grumpy in the morning and I worried she may have a bad day. I dropped off some milk halfway through the day and just missed her in the hallway (purposely, if she had seen me, her pleasant mood would have turned sour).

Even though I’m working just as much I feel like I see her less. Maybe it’s because when my husband was with her it felt like I was with her. I could call when I wanted, received picture texts, skype with her, or even drop by. Now I go a full eight hours without seeing her.

Lil’ J’s shoes via Immanuel’s Closet; Her skirt: Gifted; Her Shirt: My Natural Baby Boutique; My Shirt: Gifted

I’ve been trying to make our time together more worthwhile. The weather cooled about 20 degrees the past week and we’ve been outside almost every day since.

Labor Day we went to a mini water park with some friends of ours, and next week I want to take her on her first bike ride.

We’ve also enjoyed going out and playing at parks. Her cute little striped dress is from Savers. It was only $2.99. I am extremely picky and pretty thrifty with her clothes, and when I saw this dress I couldn’t pass it up. Then it happened to match this bow perfectly!

I didn’t think I would like over-the-top bows but Izzy Diane’s are just stunning. We have three! She wore this pink and brown one to school this week and got so many compliments. You wouldn’t believe it but she kept it on all day.

People keep telling me “Enjoy it while she wears the bows, soon she’ll be pulling them off like my daughter did” but ya know what? So far so good. Maybe putting them on her from an hour after birth had something to do with it. I dunno.

Hope you’ll link up your cuties again this week! I enjoyed looking through yours last week. One of my favorites was this little cutie on Being Mrs. Jones. Stop by and show some love to this adorable little one and her mommy!

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a tiny bit obsessed with children’s clothing. Rarely does a day goes by where I don’t browse for something cute for Lil’ J, whether a pair of shoes, a new accessory, or a dress. I rarely get something from the department store, most things are from boutiques, or second hand things from seasons ago, so it’s not often we see others wearing what she’s sporting.

I love sharing that with you too. Out of habit I take photos of her and what she’s wearing daily. I don’t consider myself a style blogger but I think I can see children’s style in my future. I couldn’t ever keep up with posting what I’m wearing on a daily basis, but I could post what Lil’ J was wearing if I want. Heck, I’m almost there already. Also, I know some of you have found new favorite shops and finds from me, and I’ve found some from you, this new link up idea can be a way to keep that going.

As if I haven’t had enough failed attempts to incorporate a blog meme, I thought I’d give it another try.

How about every week we show off our kiddos’ fashion? That’s simple enough right? I’m not sure if I’ll keep doing Fridays. While Mini Mod Monday sounds cool, Mondays are suppose to be What I’m Makin’ Monday… Lord knows I’m not making much these days now though… Aside from PB and Js for lunch and an occasional tutu. I guess Tuesday is an option too. What day do you like? Do you care?

No need to write a novel or anything, just upload some pictures, let us know where you got the outfit (if you remember) and link up here so we can blog hop. Visit the link before or after yours and comment on it. I’ll comment on any Mini Mod posts that are linked up. And with all that said, here’s my first post! I hope you’ll join in! I’ll feature one of the blogs that links up in next week’s post!

I take pictures of Lil’ J daily. Sometimes we just go out and play in the grass, and other times we take toys outside and play as the sun is setting. Our neighbor’s cat Queso usually trots over because he knows we’ll pet him and give him lots of love. I’m trying to teach Lil’ J to be gentle with him. She’s used to smacking and riding Snoop like a horse.

I sat back and watched her play before snapping a few shots. She’s so fearless, getting up in his face, and trying to give him kisses.

Queso eventually got sick of us and we plopped down and played with her piggy bank. I showed her how to stick the coins it and she sings. In a matter of minutes she had it down pat and was just over the moon excited about her new talent.

Daddy was inside studying so I took some pictures of the action so he could see how it all went down.

She’s wearing a dress and headband from one of my favorite Etsy shops: Sumo’s Sweet Stuff. I got the tiered dress and headband for $15. This was one of the first of many dresses like I ordered from this shop. It’s getting small, and it’s long sleeved so I rolled up the sleeves to make it more weather-appropriate. The length still works as a dress, and soon, once she’s too tall I can put leggings on her and she can wear it as a shirt.

She LOVES wearing shoes. I thought for sure she’d hate them since I barely put them on her for the last year. When she was first born I had socks or soft shoes on her daily. But it got hard to find the perfect socks to match ever single outfit, so I ditched them. We’re finally getting back in the habit now that she has to wear them for school, and she LOVES them! She’s either laughing and trying to pull them off, or bringing them to me, begging me to put them on. The ones she’s wearing here are Robeez. I bought these before she was born at a consignment sale. I love these shoes. They are the easiest to get on and of and nice and soft on her feet. I’m in the process of getting more like these, but with some boutique-style. Hopefully I’ll have them for another upcoming Mini Mod post!

Ever since she’s been wearing them she’s ventured with walking more. Maybe her feet feel tougher to her now or something, but she prefers to stand up and try to walk than crawl now. It could be a coincidence though. I’m not sure, but I thought shoes were suppose to have the opposite effect. Either way, I think I can officially call her a WALKER now! Yay Lil’ J! This should make picture-taking interesting from now on. But I’m excited for the challenge.

Feel free to link up and show off your stylin’ Mod Mini and let others know they can join in. Come on, what better excuse to show off your cutie and your style on them?
