A friend of mine asked for baby shower gift ideas for her best friend, so I whipped up a list of a few of my favorite things I got or bought soon after having Lil’ J. All of these things I love so much. The Scout toy is for when they get a little older but they grow so fast and before you know it they’re laughing at these things. The next thing I plan to buy here is this, because she LOVES them when we go other places.
I left off clothing stores because I think clothing is so personal and dependent on style. Since I’m getting emails asking about where I shop for Lil’ J quite a bit, I’m going to be captioning the places I get Lil’ J’s clothes from under her photos with links from now on, so if you’re wondering it’ll be there.
I left #10 open because I was curious what you thought. What’s an item you love?

Kimberly says:

Great list! I’m trying to find something fabulous for my sister who is due in July! Thanks for the list!

AlyceB says:

Ergo Cocoon! No more escaping from swaddling anymore 😀 They’re on my baby giftlist!

Great one!! I never got the hang of swaddling so I missed that one but it’s way helpful for other moms!! Thanks! 🙂

Karen says:

Boppy Pillow. This item has gotten the most use out of any of my baby items, hands down. In hindsight I wish I actually had two of them (one to sit on for recovery, the other for nursing). Additional covers are a plus too; I had to buy mine later.

Shelley says:

Yep I third the idea of a swaddle wrap, they are great for newborns. And wraps like the moby wrap (or we have one called a hug-a-bub here in Australia). Also sophie the giraffe (obviously you know all about that one! or two!).

For older babies (and my son is almost 7 months and they get there soooo quickly), board jigsaw puzzles, board books, pop-up games, baby hats and socks. Also practical are sippy cups, spoons and bowls, mesh feeder, bibs, etc – guarantee they will use them and they won’t have bought them yet!

Jennifer says:

Aden & anais swaddlng blankets! I love them! My guy is too big to swaddle now, but he loves them as a blankie. They are lightweight (great for this FL weather), breathable, soft, and have great customer service. One of mine ripped and they sent me a whole new package free.

Jennifer says:

Oh and the a + a blankets are huge! I used them for me when falling asleep on the chair in the newborn stage. LOL

Kyla's Mommy says:

I love the list! 🙂 My daughter is seventeen months old already so I can’t even remember what I loved when she was that young. It’s amazing how fast time goes and how much you forget 🙁

P.S. I am getting kyla that same infant to toddler swing for easter 🙂

Apple says:

I love my boppy pillow. I use it every day! 🙂

Sound Sleeper

Any kind of bouncer chair, although I find that simpler is better.

A carseat tent or canopy! They sell lots on Etsy but I just learned to make my own for shower gifts. I always get compliments on how unique these are.

I would definitely add a boppy pillow to that list as well. I got one at my shower and my daughter still uses it at 13 months. She loves to sit in it and we prop her up on it when we give her a bottle. And of course it was awesome for breast-feeding, helping her learn to sit up, tummy time, and occasionally I even use it as a pillow when I lay on the couch to watch a show or movie at night with my hubs. Every new mom should get a boppy!

I love Scout! I’d add a sleep sack (we used the Halo one) or an activity mat.

I have that swing. ITs awesome and Clara LOVES it. :D. I’m sure Lil J will too. We got C hers for christmas.

Hooded Towel and Washcloth Sets:)

every new parent should get a set of Aden + Anais swaddling blankets and a Sophie Giraffe

Chantel says:

Boppy! Everyone needs a boppy. I’ve had one for all three kids, and I LOVE it. We used it for sitting up, nursing (I still use it for this), tummy time..All kinds of stuff. It’s a great product. Aden and Anais blankets are just great too. They’re big and soft. My son LOVES his. He has one in his crib that he cuddles with at night, and then we have some in the living room that he cuddles throughout the day. They are the best blankets.

Rachael says:

Not being a mommy already, I have two go-to gifts that I like. I usually buy an outfit in size 6 months or higher because everyone gets people itty bitty baby clothes. I also sew a carseat canopy for the person with colors that either match the travel system they registered for, or the bedding their registered for. I’m all about the matching so the outfit usually matches as well.

I think they turn out pretty cute.

Jennifer says:

Diapers in larger sizes like 3 or 4. You can NEVER have too many diapers.

Sharon says:

Okay, my kids are way old (teens) so what I valued more than anything was a FULL NIGHTS SLEEP. Can you imagine what a gift it is for a new mom to have one night of uninterrupted sleep? I’ve given that gift to friends and they have always more than appreciated it.

Can’t wait to find out where you get Lil J’s clothes. I am especially interested in where you get all her cute little headbands!

De Su Mama says:

This is a great post idea! I’ve been drafting my own baby gear do’s and do over’s list for a couple girl friends that are expecting. So if we are talking gear presents, I would say without a doubt the Snap N Go stroller or an Ergo. Diapers are always a sure bet too!

Also, my Alina is 14 months and has the LF Violet. She LOVES that it says her name and makes animal noises. Lil J is gonna love it even more in a just few months! They grow so fast!

2 things every new Mother needs…1. The Sleep Sheep and 2. A Nursing Cover. Great ideas.

Mama B says:

great list!! I think boppy, hot mama gowns, woombie, and sophie the giraffe make fab gifts. and my newest fave gift to give, cloth diapers 🙂

Those baby stuffs are cute. I’m preparing also baby stuffs because my first baby is coming. I want all the best for her.

Brandi Elam says:

I completely agree with the others who said Boppy and Aden & Anais swaddling blankets. I have used my Boppy with each of my kids and love it. I just received some A & A swaddling blankets with this baby and I adore them. They are really great blankets!

I totally agree with what you said about clothing, I know my style is not the normal taste for baby clothing (I prefer cute refined styles that look more adult carried at places like baby gap compared to themed stuff they carry at gymboree) I just hope my baby shower guests get the hint when they look at my registries or when they ask and I tell them she already has a lot of clothes

Linsay says:

I agree, Boppy was always a favorite! I actually fell in love with so many mom-invented or mom-made products that after both my daughters, I started an online boutique which sells mom-invented products for new mommy’s! There are so many mom-invented products that I could list because they almost always solve an age-old problem so they’re always my faves! http://www.busymomboutique.com

Kelley says:

I love anything made by hand, in fact. Gifts for the new mom-to-be made by hand are my favorite kind to give.

My husband is a sculptor. He wanted to make something really special for me to mark the birth of our first child. I thought we were having a boy–I was wrong–but the object he made was so gorgeous it inspired a company–Romey + Remus.

Now we’re making these beautiful mementos available to others to commemorate the births of their special arrivals. http://romeyandremus.com
