We went to watch Disney’s 61st animated feature Strange World this Thanksgiving weekend and it was a hit! Perhaps not everyone’s favorite movie this year but everyone enjoyed it. I even felt like some of that Disney magic we’ve been missing was infused in this new film. You can read my full spoiler-free review of Strange World here. But if you want to know what my kids thought of the film, keep reading on.
In my review I talked about how excited I was about all of the diversity in the film. My kids? They didn’t even care. I think maybe Jayda was the only one who noticed that the parents were an interracial couple like their own parents “but I saw that in the trailer,” she said. It wasn’t even worth mentioning in her recap. Honestly they watch a lot of shows and movies with diversity it’s not even a big deal to them.
My 9-year-old son was flabbergasted at the first mention of Ethan’s crush. Not because of who his crush was on, but because “He has a CRUSH!? How old is he?!” But WAY more gross than a teen liking another teen was all of the kissing the parents did. Ty turned his head away almost every time. “DISGUSTING! That’s just like you and dad.” He and Ethan share that in common.
