20 Weeks Down 20 Weeks to Go!
Dear Spawnie,
We’ve made it! Can you believe it? We are to our half-way point! Not only that, but this week I found out you’re my baby GIRL! I can’t believe it. Partly because all of the tests seemed to think you were a boy and partly because it just seems to good to be true! I know boys aren’t that bad but girls are just so much fun! I told myself if you were in fact a girl then I’d be in for it, cause you’re one to go against the grain already. But you know what… That’s a lot like your mommy!
Let me tell you something little girl… I want you to know you can be WHATEVER you want to be! You can be a doctor, a lawyer, a firefighter, a teacher, and you can be a mom too! As you’re growing up you’ll see all sorts of moms and women who do all sorts of things! I want you to know you can go for whatever you dream! I did, and I’m so happy I did. Especially since I’m finally going for my biggest dream, and that’s to have you! When we went in this week for our ultrasound I was SO surprised to see you were a girl. Finding that out really made me the happiest mommy alive! It also makes all of this seem so much more real!
When we got your measurements you were looking nice and healthy! You kicked me quite a bit during the ultrasound too! I could see it and feel it at the same time! You were upside down, it didn’t look very comfortable, you were really standing on your head! I was worried at first because your pictures didn’t look like other pictures I’ve seen where they can clearly make out all of the body parts. At first it looked like you didn’t have any arms! But you aren’t armless! The tech pointed out your arms to us!
You look like you’re weighing about 10 1/2 ounces now. You should be about 6 1/2 inches long now, or about the length of a banana. I can’t remember what you measured to exactly during the ultrasound.
You’re swallowing more now, which apparently is good for your digestive system.
There were a couple of things the doctor talked to us about concerning you. Number one, mommy is five months pregnant now and I’ve only gained about 3 pounds! You wouldn’t think it looking at this picture though. You can even see my belly button sticking out through my shirt!
Love,
Mommy
Question of the day: Did you ultrasound pictures confuse you too or did your baby look more like a baby at 20 weeks?
Well done girls and Daddy keep up the good work. :)!
Awwe, that’s awesome! Congratulations. Girls rock! Be sure to keep snacks in your purse (crackers, granola bars, fruit) to get you through the periods you can’t get out and eat. Take care!
A name, yay! Your comment about stocking up on books made me smile — fiancé and I have already bought a couple of books for our kids, and we love thinking about all the books we’ll buy them in the future!
Girl, you look GREAT but you need to eat!! LOL… so happy you are having a girl.. super exciting!!!
You have a name, yay! My favorite girl’s name has always been Emma, but it was vetoed by my hubby. We settled on Claire. I think I was more confused by my son’s ultrasound than by my daughter’s. I didn’t know WHAT they were talking about when they were pointing out what my son was. With my daughter, I saw it before anyone else did and I cried. With our last child, also a boy, we waited until birth to find out.
Oh, and I think it’s awesome you are taking pictures so often. I didn’t do that with my first. I only have two belly pictures from my first, and they were both taken the day I gave birth. I regret that so much.
No, my daughter was a punk before the ultrasound, during it and still is at nearly 20 months. Hooray for a name! You should celebrate with a lot of dessert!
Oh how exciting! Happy 20 weeks! Glad you had a name and you look great! Keep those belly bars on hand when your out and about and don’t have time to eat!
So very happy and excited for you and your baby girl! I can’t wait to hear what her name is!! 🙂
~Em~
Happy half-way point Mamma! 🙂
Each time everything had to be pointed out to us-except this last one which I wanted the gender to be a surprise. I am so envious that you have name picked out alread-we have yet to figure out the girl name and it’s driving me nuts. For sure you look so cute with your belly bump. I love your posts-keep them coming and welcome to the ranks of motherhood!!
Congratulations on having a girl! How exciting. When I was preggo with B I had to go back at 24 weeks to get more umbilical cord measurements too. It was nice to get a second peek at him and confirm he was still indeed a boy.
They still look a bit alien-ish at 20 weeks. Here’s a link to my 20 week ultrasound:

She looks like she doesn’t really have arms either.
I had my sonograms at 22 Weeks 3 Days. I could hardly make out anything. I felt like Rachel from that episode of friends! But my BF B had no trouble seeing things! Here’s the link to mine if you want to compare.

Congratulations on 20 weeks! I think it’s really awesome how you’re documenting this journey, and it’s great that you’re sharing it with us! I love the updated pics every week!! Can’t wait to see how beautiful she looks once she’s on the outside! Halfway there!
Woohoo! Spawnie’s looking beautiful already! 🙂
I don’t have any kids yet, so I can’t really tell you about ultrasound pics LOL
…but, I love how her bottom is labeled “Rump” – that gave me a giggle 😉
The baby is growing great. Your blog gives me inspiration to have a spawn of my own.
Having a girl is SO MUCH FUN! Everyone, including the doc’s thought I was having a boy but nope GIRL. Perfect. Totally perfect. EVERYONE gave me clothes at my baby shower…to the extent that I wondered why I even bothered registering. First time mom registries are funny, mine included. I felt ridiculous at our first ultrasound. My husband worked as an MRI tech in college, so he knew EXACTLY what we were looking at. At one time I said, “oh, is that her heart?” which they BOTH responded, “no, that her head.” oh. um, when does mommy radar kick in??? You are doing great!
Just loved this post… coming from SITS. Random, but are you going to Bloggy Boot Camp in Baltimore?
A girl!! Congratulations! You are going to have so much fun dressing her up and all 🙂
Found you at MBC commenters 🙂

You’re looking great! I know this is the “feel good” trimester, but you put everyone else to shame 🙂
Just had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday…we didn’t get a good look at his little face as he kept burrowing in my backside. 🙂 Excited to be having another boy (have a 3 year old son)!
Congrats on hitting the 20 week mark! It’s all a fast slide from here…get ready! And enjoy your cute belly…totally jealous of that. 😉
