19 Weeks and Mystery to be Revealed!

Dear Spawnie,

This may be one of the last times I address you as Spawnie. Maybe not. I kinda like the nickname and I think I’ll keep calling you that after I know what you are.
I just wanted to give you a little talk before we go to the doctors TODAY! I’m going to be frank with you like I was frank with my Aunt Flow before you came along.
You’re about 19 and a half weeks now… Your boy or girl parts should be showing very obviously. I’ve been studying ultrasound pictures myself lately and I’ve kinda got it down… Turtle head poking out=boy and three white lines= girl. The possible problem will come in if you decide to fall asleep in a bad position while we’re doing the scan and we can’t determine what you are.
This would be very bad Spawnie, because, you see… I have plans for us. Right after our appointment we’re going to get you a new outfit and start shopping for some of your room decorations. I also am having a BIG PARTY the Tuesday where I plan to tell everyone what you are. This won’t work if you hide. Not only that but your mommy will be very sad and crying a lot, but the doctors office will probably have to drag me out kicking and screaming.
I’ve heard drinking orange juice before helps get babies to move around a little. You’re normally pretty active so I’m not too worried, I just worry that 2pm may be your nap time… Which can’t happen tomorrow. But you also can’t move around too much cause then we won’t be able to tell!

I know there’s a chance they can get it wrong, but I’m taking my chances. If they tell me one thing and you come out another that’ll be a BIG SURPRISE and pretty dang funny if you ask me. That said… I still plan to take their word for it! I really don’t mind either way what you are, I’m just ready and excited to KNOW!

Your sensory development is exploding now! Your brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Quite a few sites tell me that you may be able to hear my voice now, so I’m trying to sing to you sometimes, play music for you. I even bought an iPhone ap today with good prenatal lullabys to play for you. I also need to make a new playlist with church music, and soon I hope to start recording your daddy and mine’s voice reading books to you and play them to you on our Lullabelly.

I also got you a BabyPlus which uses beats and rhythms that are suppose to help your learning skills. We shall see what this all does to you Spawnie! I dunno about you but I already think you’re smart. I can feel it!

(photo from babycenter)

You weigh about 8 1/2 ounces now and measure 6 inches, head to bottom. Your arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of your body now. Oh and get this baby… Your hair on your scalp is sprouting! I had a dream two nights ago you were a German baby and you had blond hair and for some reason could only understand me if I spoke German. I’ll have to tell you more about that later. But back to your task… Show yourself today. It’s the one time I’ll tell you not to be shy about your privates! See the pose the baby in this picture is doing? I’m sorry, it doesn’t look very comfortable but that’s the PERFECT place to be for us to see if you’re a boy or girl. Listen to your mommy and do as I say!

Love,

Mommy

Question of the day: What have you heard is good for getting a good ultrasound view of boy or girl parts? Foods to eat? Myths? I’ll try it! Also, were you told results that were proven wrong at birth?

Take the OJ with you to the appointment and drink it twenty minutes before 🙂 I always made sure to eat/drink before my appts and Molly showed us her stuff everytime! lol

Stam House says:

yes OJ or apple juice would do the trick!!! Good luck!

Gena says:

Have a full bladder. Be careful with too much caffeine! I’d stick with just OJ and lots of prayers!

Stephanie says:

Good luck girl! I seriously can’t wait – living vicariously through you right now 😉

Yay for the big day!

We did nothing! But we also had to go in lots because of my pre-existing diabetes, so we had confirmation (I don’t wish that on you!). Funny that Spawnie is 19 1/2 weeks (inside) – because that’s precisely how old my daughter Freya is right now (outside!). Guess her birthday was a good day for a new friend…

Good luck finding out tomorrow and I hope you can just relax=D

Raine says:

Drinking a lot of water is supposed to help, and also orange juice 30 minutes to an hour beforehand. Good luck! 🙂

btw, if you need church music, there’s a .torrent file floating around of like 341 LDS hymns, supposed to be the Tabernacle Choir, but it doesn’t sound like them. [I’m not LDS, but if I ever join a church, that’s probably where I’ll go, and I enjoy the music and teachings].

brittany726 says:

i drank a coke and baby was sleeping so she made me go to the bathroom and jump around and after the baby woke up!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Ursula says:

my son was as stubborn in the womb as he is out of it now: he would cross his legs just as we got down to the naughty bits! He made sure he was a surprise til he was out and about!

Cindy says:

Love your dream! When I was pregnant with my 2nd baby, I dreamed I was Althea Tibbs (Remember In the Heat of the Night), and I gave birth to this little white baby. Couldn’t figure out why my baby was white. I’m white. I know. This makes no sense. My point is, a lot of women dream that their babies are very unlike them. I think it’s just anxiety about the new person joining their lives.

I look forward to pregnant dreams. They’re always fascinating.

Nichol says:

I always drank lots of water and it always worked. As soon as I woke up. So glad I’m back reading along your blog.

Tori says:

Apple juice worked for me to get him to move, but because I was doing the 3D/4D ones, they couldn’t get a good face shot because someone was trying to hide behind his hands, so the tech poked him with the wand a bunch of times to get him to move lol… he sure doesn’t have that problem now though! 🙂 He’s a wiggly little guy who loves having his picture taken, and at barely 8 months old he knows that a camera means to smile and look cute. HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Kathryn says:

Hey! I heard drinking a lot of water helps the night before and the morning of. I did that and my baby was moving all around, and we got the perfect view to find out boy or girl! I also was told that drinking a little caffeine before helps as well. Good luck! I just found thursday I am having a boy! 🙂

Oh, how exciting!!!! Woot!

J. L. W. says:

What an exciting day for you! Good luck!

MONICA-LnP says:

how exciting!I say its a boy!
stopping by from SITS

Hi!

I used Baby Plus too and totally love it (well until the end of my pregnancy when the sounds get really loud and annoying especially when I’m stuck in a train or elevator)

Do drop by my blog when you’re free – although I only started my blog last year after quitting my job to be a SAHM, I do blogged about my pregnancy, childbirth, parenting and all the random stuff. 🙂

Enjoy your pregnancy and God bless you!

H says:

Yay for Babyplus! I drank a OJ and my little tart was still uncooperative. The tech had to keep jiggling my belly for us to find out what she was.

Also, at that point, they decided to push my due date up from July to June. See, my girl had a big head and a skinny body, so they went by head size. I’m still dubious that it was the right call, because at almost 20 months, she still has a big head and a skinny body. *shrugs*

Good luck tomorrow!

If you’re going to find out today I see no reason why you can’t rush straight back here and let the world know today!! My guess is boy! Good luck! Sending you open legs vibes 😉

P.S. Happy one year SITSiversary

Amy Lynn says:

I drank 1/4 of a can of coke about an hour before the ultrasound. I HATE coke, but that was the only caffine I could find at work that day! Our ultrasound was correct. They said he was a boy, and he was! BUT I have heard that it is more likely for them to mistake a girl for a boy, because the boy parts could be hiding. But more times than not they are correct!

I am so excited to find out what you are having!! Cant wait!

Kristen says:

Mine was pretty stubborn and the technician had to shake my stomach pretty hard… she was determined because it took forEVER but then we saw the little turtle! It’s a magical moment! Good luck!

I’ve heard the idea about the OJ too – hopefully he (yes, I think it’s a boy) is doing a spread eagle for you today!

Lolli says:

I second what everyone else is saying about having a moderately full bladder…you just don’t want to be so full that you’re dying on the ultrasound table!

Nicole says:

How exciting that you are about to find out the gender! I remember counting down the seconds until we got to find out, we were so anxious! Like everyone said, make sure you drink enough water. Also, make sure not to have too much sugar close to your ultrasound appointment. I had eaten my lunch (along w/ a few sour patch kids) about 45 minutes before my appointment. Our little one was moving around sooo much we almost had to reschedule!

Sophia's Mom says:

Good luck Jenn!
I had to get 3 ultrasounds before I knew what we were having!
My little lady would not show us her lady parts!!!

Can’t wait for the party tomorrow!

Emmy says:

Good luck!! Hope it works out. Excited to find out.

MsBabyPlan says:

It is so exciting, I remember when my sister in law found out the gender of her four year girl, I was there with her :). I am really excited to find out tomorrow if Spawnie is boy or girl. I am sure he is boy!

Your belly is just so freakin’ adorable. I’m really enjoy watching it grow through pictures! It still doesn’t seem like you should be old enough to have a baby (I mean, hello, I remember cheering with you! With those long legs of yours!). Can’t wait to learn if it’s a boy or girl!

This, That, & T’other

I woke mine up with a little glass of side (Dr Pepper) and it was worth it. You can also push a little on your tummy to get the little one to love around. Can’t wait!!!
